How to password protect IE?
I want to know how I can password protect IE7 so that anytime the IE app is called to load, it will ask for a password. Correct password = internet access, incorrect password = no internet access. There are no Windows users setup except for Admin (and I would rather not do that either), so protecting folders etc. with that is not an option.
I have looked extensively for a 3rd party app or add-on, but cannot find anything. Strange, as I would think this would be something that many people/families would like. Just something simple to block IE only. Freeware would be nice, too.
Thanks in advance!

Re: How to password protect IE?
Hello
This is very simple and can be done inside IE itself.
Password protect Internet Explorer 7- Open up Internet Explorer
- Click Tools
- Click Internet Options
- Click on the tab Content
- Underneath 'Content Advisor', Click Enable
- Then click on the tab General
- Under 'Supervisor Password click Create
- Make you password then click Ok.
- Then Apply and finally Ok

Re: How to password protect IE?
Go - Thank you for your response, and I have messed with Content settings. That would work to block invalid users. However with those settings, valid users have to type in the password for each website they visit... which gets tiresome, even after you keep adding the sites to the allowable list. Unless I am missing something?
I was looking for one password check before even opening IE... incorrect = IE does not open/run, correct = IE full access until you close the program again.
Thanks again!

Re: How to password protect IE?
I have an idea.... what you do is enable content adviser as i said in the previous post, when you open up IE you will get a password you type it in, then go Click Internet Options
then Click on the tab Content , and disable it. Then when you are done enable it again.
Would this be an option?

Re: How to password protect IE?
Go - Thank you again. Certainly an option, but a tedious one.
I need something more convenient. Password required to load and run IE, then once in, no more passwords or having to turn anything on or off. Next time IE is called to load, same thing, only a password to load/run. May just have to get a paid app somewhere.
Thanks again!

Re: How to password protect IE?
sorry to bring this up from the dead, but I too am looking for this exact solution. I have vista and would like to make it so you have to input a password to use the internet explorer program. Just block the program and not the content.
