I have been asked to help with a Vista based machine that would not complete the SP2 installation, and now is very unwell.
Task manager opens in the task bar, but it is invisible, it also opens multiple times. No running programe list.
Machine reports no internet connection, but it is connecting, And ... I can download some tools but not install them. Programmes with their own update mini can connect.
Ad-aware reported nothing and has now disappeared.
Revo uninstaller let me remove some start ups but then disappeared.
The programmes appear to be in their directory positions as always but the GUI can no longer see them. Some still work some do not.
After a reeboot and exploring to the Revo exe files the machine hung as soon as the system tried to write the restore file. (I tried to remove the old printer drivers)
Restore is there but the system hangs as soon as I touch it.
D: drive and the factory restore is there, but the machine just hangs.
HJT runs but staggers and after a long pause generates a report, but I cant trust that either.
The machine will not shut down at all. If I deliberately crash it, windows restores to the same state.
Safe mode runs but all I get is a completely blank screen with the words "safe mode" in 4 corners, no start bar or status bar only a cursor, nothing functions.
Each programme I use is hidden next time I look for it.
I need to remove power supply and battery to access the machine after each hang.
Im getting old rapidly.
I have plenty of internet access via other machines but no vista disks.
I think the phrase I am looking for is HELP + Please!
I cannot even begin to get the machine info to you.
