Note: Those which do not have the instructions for re-enabling are usually re-enabled by a reboot.
Once the scans are completed, be sure to Turn On "Real-Time Scanning".
Adaware's AdWatch
Ad-Watch:
- Right-click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray
- Select "Restore Ad-Watch"
- At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options -- Active and Automatic.
- Uncheck both options (red X).
- Since you will likely be doing several shutdown/restarts, under Tools & Preferences > Options > Activity > Deselect "Load Ad-Watch at Windows startup"
Note: When Ad-Watch is re-enabled, it is vital that you accept any changes that may be alerted by Ad-Watch.
AdWatch (versions from
2007 onwards)
- Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
- Select Goto Settings.
- Click on Status on the left.
- On your right hand side, click once on each of the section to turn the green tick into a red cross.
- Click on RegShield on the left.
- On your right hand side, click once on each of the section to turn the green tick into a red cross.
- Click on Settings on the left.
- Click once on Load Ad-Watch at startup to turn the green tick into a red cross.
- Minimize Ad-Watch.
- Right click on the Ad-Watch icon again and select Close Ad-Watch.
- You will be prompted if you want to shut down Ad-Watch. Click Yes.
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Re-enable Lavasoft AdWatch:
- Open Ad-Watch.
- Click on Status on the left.
- On your right hand side, click once on each of the section to turn the red cross into a green tick.
- Click on RegShield on the left.
- On your right hand side, click once on each of the section to turn the red cross into a green tick.
- Select Settings on the left.
- Click once on Load Ad-Watch at startup to turn the red cross into a green tick.
- Close the Ad-Watch window. Ad-Watch will minimize to your system tray (near the clock).
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Automatic file system protection
- Run F-PROT Antivirus.
- Click the Virus scanners menu.
- Under Virus scanners, select File system.
- In the File system window, clear the Enable automatic file protection check box to disable the service.

- Click the Virus scanners menu.
- Under Virus scanners, select Internet/E-mail.

To enable the automatic scanners, you may either enable their service in the System status menu or the Virus scanners menu.
In the System status menu - most convenient way:
When the automatic scanners are disabled, a red graphic symbol is displayed in the System status menu. Click on each automatic scanners to enable their service. Do the following:
- Run F-PROT Antivirus and the System status menu opens.
- From this window, click on "Complete file system protection", "Outlook e-mail protection", and "Internet Explorer protection".
In the Virus scanners menu
- Run F-PROT Antivirus.
- Click the Virus scanners menu. From this window, click on the Enable button for "Complete file system protection", "Outlook e-mail protection" and "Internet Explorer protection".

- Right-click on the MBAM icon in the System Tray and uncheck "Enable Protection".

- The Protection Module is now disabled and will not restart.
Reverse to re-enable.

Panda Antivirus
Though an icon for Panda Antivirus will always be present in your computer's system tray, you cannot disable Panda Antivirus protection through this icon. Instead, you're going to have to load the Windows Task Manager and manually force Panda Antivirus to close if you want to disable it at any time.
- Right-click on the long, horizontal bar that holds your "Start" menu icon, i.e. taskbar.
- Click "Start Task Manager."
- Click the "Processes" tab.
- Look under the "Description" column for the file that represents Panda Antivirus. Once located, click on it.
- Click the "End Task" button. Click "End Task" again in the new window that appears. This will disable Panda Antivirus on your computer, until you restart.

Re-enable PC Tools Threatfire:
- Right click on ThreatFire's icon near the clock (blue icon with an orange strip in the middle) and select Suspend.
- It will turn into an orange flame if the re-enable process is performed successfully

- Right click on Trend Micro Internet Security icon near the clock (a blue-white pill icon) and click once on Real-time Virus Protection.
- If successfully disabled, it will notify you about it and the pill icon will have a no entry sign on it.
Re-enable TM Internet Security 14:
- Right click on Trend Micro Internet Security icon near the clock (a blue-white pill icon with no entry sign) and click once on Real-time Virus Protection.
- If successfully enabled, it will notify you about it and it will change to a blue-white pill.
Trend Micro OfficeScan
- Right click on Trend Micro Antivirus icon near the clock.
- Select Unload OfficeScan.
Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007- Exit PC-cillin Internet Security from the system tray menu
- Close the PC-cillin Internet Security main console if it is open.
- Right-click the PC-cillin Internet Security icon near your computer's system clock.
- Click Exit from the menu.
- Click Yes when the confirmation message appears.

Anti-Virus Shield Disabling- Click on the Options button on the left hand side of Webroot Anti-Virus
- Go to the Shields tab of the Options Menu
- Under the section labeled Anti-Virus Protection, uncheck the Protect against Viruses box.
Anti-Virus Sweep Disabling- Click on the Options button on the left hand side of Webroot Anti-Virus
- On the Sweep tab, put the dot into Custom Sweep (please note you can only disable Anti-Virus Sweeps by using the Custom Sweep option)
- Under the section labeled Sweep Settings Summary, click the Change Settings link which is next to Custom Sweep Settings
- A Custom Sweep box will appear with various sections to click on. Click on the What To Sweep button on the left side of this Custom Sweep box.
- On this screen, uncheck Sweep for Viruses under the Viruses section.
- Click the OK button at the bottom of this screen and you will be returned to the Sweep tab. (Again please note that you can only disable Anti-Virus Sweeps by using the Custom Sweep Option which will now be selected)
SpySweeper:
- Launch Spy Sweeper
- Click the "Options" menu
- Select the "Programs" tab
- Click to remove the check mark from the "Load the program at Windows startup" option, and save your changes.
- Restrart. Spy Sweeper no longer launches when you start your computer.
Reverse to re-enable.

Windows Defender
- Launch Windows Defender, right click on the System Tray icon, select Open.
- Click on Tools>Options.
- Scroll down and uncheck "Use real-time protection (recommended)".
- Scroll down further, and uncheck "Use Windows Defender"
- After you uncheck these, click on the Save button, approve the UAC prompt, and close Windows Defender.

Windows Live OneCare
- Right click system tray icon on main page
- Click Change Settings
- Click Viruses and Spyware Tab
- Tick "Off" radio button
- Click Apply and OK.
Also either have to disable Firewall, or approve one of CF's files, or RC won't install for XP otherwise.

Windows Security Essentials:
- Launch Windows Security Essentials
- Click on Settings tab
- Uncheck Turn on real- time protection (recommended)
- Click on Save changes
Reverse to re-enable.

WinPatrol - Right Click the 'Scotty Dog' icon in the system tray
- Click Options
- At the bottom of the options page, Uncheck Automatically Run WinPatrol When Computer Starts
- Click the X in the upper right corner to end program.
- Right Click the 'Scotty Dog' icon in the system tray again.
- Click Exit Program
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Re-enable WinPatrol:
- Go to Start > All Programs > Winpatrol > Winpatrol.
- Winpatrol will start, near the clock.
- Right click on the Scotty Dog and select Options.... A window will open.
- Select the Options tab.
- Check (tick) this box: Automatically run Winpatrol when computer starts.
- Close the Winpatrol window.

- Check the toolbar in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen and find the icon for Zone alarm.
- Right-click the Zone Alarm Icon.
- Scroll down and select "Shutdown Zone Alarm."
