Adware: BetterSurf

Hi there,

My Windows 8 64 bit PC keeps getting infected with the following: Adware: BetterSurf

What can I do to prevent this from getting into my PC in the first place?
I use Windows defender and I make sure it is up to date.

Will appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Hello Acer2000 and welcome to TSF,

Usually these types of programs get installed with other 'free' software that you downloaded from sites such as cNet, Softpedia, etc. When installing, select 'Custom Install' instead of Express or Typical and you would see the other toolbars and search engines that have been bundled and give you the option to opt out.

If you need assistance in removing it from the machine, please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from here --> Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download (you want the 64-bit version) and save it to your desktop.


Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
