in this article: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20041018-4318.html some amount of concern is growing about the possiblity of the internet falling dead from an overwhelming number of viruses, spyware, trojans, hackers, and security flaws.

the point being made is something needs to happen soon, as the internet grows 10 fold per year.

He makes a very valid point and I tend to agree with him.
To surf safely on the net one needs to spend just about the same amount of time running anti virus and adaware removers. I've got to a stage where i only use the net to look up nescessary things and then try to select sites that seem safe. It's no fun anymore and I think that they should prosecute the perpertrators of this type of crime. Personally I'd just kick them in the *** till their nose bleeds. I'll get down off my soapbox now but there should be something positive done about this problem.
Sorry about my rambling on but this is probable my pet hate

The problem, surely, lies in the modern obbsesion with privacy and data protection - i.e. finding out who commits these crimes is increasingly hindered by rules and regulations. imho.
