I'm too cautious to try a clean boot. I don't trust being able to start normally after I try it.

Just select "Normal Startup" and reboot. You're back.

ok, I followed the directions for a clean boot, but it appeared to restart normally. Another failed update attempt. I will try again today.

I have downloaded it from this site and failed again another 6 times or so. I might have to wait until another solution comes up. When you find other fixes let me know.

I was able to schedule help from Microsoft. They worked an hour and a half yesterday and failed to resolve the issues. They are going to try again this Friday with a higher level of technician. I not only have the update issue but also the Stop Code for DPC that has been unresolved for a while now. Will post what happens.

The second call from Microsoft didn't resolve this either. I will have to back up my personal files and they will start with a fresh Windows installation in a week. Proving to be a time consuming problem.

The Creators Update should be in a few months since a second one (Redstone 4) is later in the year. Might pay to just wait.

Thanks. If this next step doesn't work I'll wait for the later updates. I don't use this laptop except for short trips away from home. But it updates itself every day and every time I turn it off. Very disruptive.
