I have a Lenovo Ideapad 100 that came with Window 10.
I believe the OS recently completed the "automatic" Windows 10 update.
For the past few days, I have not been able to connect to the internet. Tried with Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. Get a message saying no connection.
Called AT&T DSL tech support; went thrust all the diagnostic routines.
The DSL connection is fine up through the wireless router, and the cell phones and tablet have no problem have no problem connecting via the wireless router.
Is this a Windows 10 update issue?
My sister got a phone call today from someone with a middle eastern accent who said I understand you're having computer problems. When she asked for his phone number, he hung up. Also we have not received any demands requiring payment to fix the computer, so maybe this is not another instance of ransomware.
Please let me know how to proceed to resolve this!
So it looks the issue lies solely with your Lenovo Ideapad 100 computer, as your wireless router works fine(Works fine with cellphones and tablets).
With regards to the internet connection, are you NOT able to get an internet connection via both wireless and wired connection? If you only tested wireless, try connecting a network cable from the LAN port of your router to the LAN port of your computer and see if you're able to get internet connection.
Also, do this, open up the command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotations.
Hi, you will need to open a command prompt as administrator to run the ipconfig command. Go to start search and type cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-
ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0 (press enter) notepad will open post the contents here please.
Hi, on the errant computer run the cmd,(nothing else needed) For the check with the wired connection (known as Ethernet) you connect a cat 5 or cat 6 cable to the router (there will be a number of ports available) and then connect the cable to the ethernet network adapter on your computer, if you don't see one then most likely you do not have a Ethernet connection.
We are interested in the lines below what we can't see in the pictures Under Ethernet Adapter Ethernet and below that. What I can see is that you do not have an Ethernet cable plugged in. Which is another way to get internet on the computer
Please Run the command in the Quote above, Save the Notepad Results to a USB Flash drive. Plug the USB flash drive into an internet computer open the Notepad file. Copy the contents and paste it into your next thread.
Hi, well from your Ipconfig cmd results there is no wifi adapter mentioned, Open a cmd prompt on the errant computer (as admin, post #5) copy and paste all below in red text (to make it easier), at the cmd prompt:-
wmic nic get AdapterType, AutoSense, Name, Installed, MACAddress, PNPDeviceID,PowerManagementSupported, Speed, StatusInfo /Format:List > 0 & notepad 0
Press enter, this wmic query allows us to see what windows recognizes as your network adapters... see if the wireless adapter shows? You can use the flash stick to post the notepad outcome here if you like.
At the same cmd prompt type:- devmgmt.msc Press enter, device manager will open expand the + next to network adapters, what shows?
Hi, type devmgmt.msc into search and press enter, device manager will open expand the network adapters and right click on your WIFI adapter and select properties, what shows?
Hi, yes as indicated your wifi adapter has been disabled, please select "enable" if successful, restart computer and try your wifi connection.Let us know how you get on.
Resolved: Computer will not connect to the internet
It is now working perfectly!
Thank you so much for helping me resolve this. )
