Hi Shadowrock and welcome to the forums.

Press the win + x keys together and from the menu select command prompt(Admin) an elevated cmd prompt will open. Copy and paste this cmd into the prompt window:- (the cmd's you need to copy paste, I have highlighted in red)

mkdir %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp\PendingDeletes %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp\PendingRenames
Press enter, do not worry if it say's they already exist that's fine.

Next still in the cmd prompt copy and paste in the command window (your text should append to the flashing prompt):-

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup (press enter) Wait till they complete.

Next still in cmd prompt, copy paste:-

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (press enter)

Now still in cmd prompt type:- sfc/scannow (since Vista day's no space after c is needed).

Let us know how you get on.. if all is well I would next at the prompt type:-

chkdsk/r (press enter) say Y when prompted to run at boot, restart computer and chkdsk will run be patient it can take hours. When finished windows will open.

Hi, my error I missed a space try this:-

mkdir %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp\PendingDeletes %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp\PendingRenames

Also did you wait for the restore health cmd to finish it can take awhile.. leave it for now and at the cmd prompt
type:- chkdsk/r (press enter) say Y to run at restart, restart computer chkdsk will run and can take a long time (hours) when finished it will boot to windows. Run the cmds again from my first post (I have edited the original so it is correct)

Hi, well chkdsk is fine, open a cmd as admin (as shown) at the prompt copy paste:-

fsutil resource setautoreset true %systemdrive%\ press enter.

WE will go to safe mode, press and hold the shift key while clicking on restart, choose troubleshoot, then advanced options, startup settings, press restart, then option 4 safe mode. Open a cmd (as admin as shown) and run sfc/scannow. Let us know how you get on.
