Re: TSF Youtube Channel Discussion Thread

Done with Part 2 and 3 of the Kinect for Windows tutorial. Unfortunately, my video was 17 minutes long and YouTube can only support up to 15 minutes, so in order to fit it compressed it into a really low res which looked terrible. So, I split part 2 into another part, which is Part 3 :P Since this wasn't planned while recording the video there is an abrupt stop in the end of Part 2 and an "abrupt beginning" at the start of part 3. Since it was all supposed to be one video, I couldn't make a clean cut, but I did stop it at a point where I thought it made the most sense. To cover it up, I called the third video just a "demo" of everything working together and ultimately playing Minecraft with Kinect. Both videos are unlisted and I will put them as public, once they are approved. Also, we have a new forum! I think we should start to establish some rules and guidelines for the review process. Until then, I will just post the links like we have been doing for a while.

Part 2:

Part 3:

I finally got down the formula for uploading in 720p HD. I'm sure you guys new this already, but just in case for the new people.

1.) Export from your video editing software as 1280x720

2.) Upload directly from YouTube, not from the software options like some do.

I also entered my phone number for the verification thing, so we now have access to up to 15 minutes of HD video uploads, instead of the default 10 minutes. I will make sure to make my videos less than 10 or 15 minutes so I don't have to keep chopping it up like I did this time. Anyway, please let me know when I can make these videos public as soon as possible, because we don't want to keep people who watched Part 1 hanging :)

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

What editing software are you using? It should be possible for you to go over your video and edit out sections (such as where it wasn't working and you had to stop recording.)

Both videos are fine to make public, but Part 3 could be reviewed to make it neater. Bear in mind in future videos that if you make a mistake, it should be relatively easy to edit and re-record sections.

Thanks for the tips someguy, do you want me to redo Part 3 or just keep it for the sake of continuity? I use Sony Vegas.

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

I think Part 3 could be improved with a bit of editing, I don't think there is any need to redo the whole video.

Have a look over it again, try to cut out sections where nothing happens/you can't find the phrase etc. If there are sections which you think could be improved by re-filming that section, then try it and edit in the new cut. Ideally, you want the speech to flow as much as possible without any mistakes. As you make more videos, you'll get better at that kind of thing - something I would definitely struggle with if I was making videos. See if you can improve it with a bit of editing. The video itself is good, but I think could be improved.

Another thing that applies to both videos, to be honest I can't see the text your typing/referencing on your screen. I know you say it, but bear in mind a viewer might want to read what you're typing as well to make sure they're following the instructions correctly.

Alright, I will try to improve Part 3 more, and for the text, I will try to make it a higher resolution later on. Really like your comments, I think you should be part of the team, at least as a advisor, since you said you don't like making videos.

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

I think I'm already listed. If not then feel free to add me, but I'll just be doing the same as I am now

Some recording programs should allow you to zoom in on certain areas of your screen, although a program with that feature might not be free. It's just something to bear in mind, try to make sure anything you're typing on screen is readable for a user who might be following the steps.

You can make Part 2 public, and we'll publish.

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

Excellent work so far Carpetfizz. I agree with Someguy's comments, but I'm not going to make any constructive technical suggests as my use of online video is practically zilch. Keep up the good work.

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

Hi Carpetfizz, please can you alter the name of the Youtube video to match Part 1. They should have the same title, with the only difference being the [Part 2].

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

There seems to be a problem. When I clicked on Greenlight's notification balloon video I got Carpetfizz's Kinect 2 video.

EDIT: This must have been a temporary glitch as it seems to be OK now.

FURTHER EDIT: It's still happening. Click on the Techsupport.com below Carpetfizz's video. This will show a list of available videos. Now click on the image for Greenlight's video. It will show the correct title at the top, but will play Carpetfizz's video.

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

Seems really strage; I've been trying for a while, trying as many paths to the video as possible, and I can't recreate the problem. Can you post the link to the page you are on when this happens please?

Has anybody else experienced this issue?

Re: Kinect Tutorial Part 2+3

I was on this page. I shall now endeavour to reproduce the problem. I'm going to select Carpetfizz's article at the top of the page then select techsupportforum under the article, which will reshow the list. Then click on the title bar to the right of your article. As before, it's showing Carpetfizz's video under your title bar.

Hmm...this doesn't seem to be happening to me either. Do you think it could be a cache problem with your browser John?
