wireless network problems
I'm unable to connect to the internet over our home network and desperately need help. I'm on a dell pc running winXP - we have a linksys wireless router and i'm connecting using a belkin network adaptor. It connects to the network fine but will not pick up the internet. I've tried every option in the always helpful (insert sarcastic tone) microsoft helpcentre and nothing works. Please help somebody!!

go back into the CMD and type:
ipconfig /release
then wait a minute then type
ipconfig /renew
then type ipconfig /all and paste the info here again.
i think its something with the dns not sure cause those are some weird dns ip's
if it still doesnt work after the renew go back into the CMD and type:
ipconfing /registerdns
then try again let me know if that worked otherwise we can try a different approach of drivers and other configs.
EDIT: ALSO in the settings for the wifi adapter make sure that the ipadresse and gateway stuff is set to obtain automatically. if you dont know how to i will explain

ok - when trying to renew it told me access was denied to my network connection 3 and i'm off the network now. This was what happened originally and i think re-installing the belkin software was all it took to sort that, disabling and re-enabling the connection etc.
ipconfig /all gave the following
host name woozy
Prim dns suffix blank
Node type unknown
IP Routing enabled No
Proxy No
Physical address 00-11-50-BB-BB-BF
DHCP Yes
Autoconfig Yes
IP 0.0.0.0
Subnet 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway Blank
DHCP Server 255.255.255.255

k thats ok, did you do release before you did renew ?
so first ipconfig /release
then ipconfig /renew
like i said what was weird before in ur ipconfing showings that the dns was on .8.100 and .4.100 even thought it should be something like .1.1
so if you can either configure this manually or see if it does it automatically with the obtain ip adress and dns automatically

sorry you've lost me slightly - i did /release first then /renew and that was when i was told access denied. Not sure how to manually configure and its not picking up the settings automatically. I also put in registerdns and that said 15 mins for faults to be shown - do i need to wait that long before trying again?

yeah it takes some time.
but whats weird is that it wont even allow access to get an ip from the router ... maybe its an internal router firewall issue of some sort.
can you see the wireless network as in detecting it ? do you have encrytion enabled on the network like wep or wap2 ?

i've tried release and renew again and it still says an error occurred...access denied. None of the network settings have been changed so i don't think it could be a firewall problem - it's worked fine previously and just lost the connection a couple of days ago.
We don't have encryption enabled.
At the moment the network connection is hanging on 'acquiring network address' and it's picking up the network properly.

id suggest unplugging the wifi adapter possible reinstalling the software
then resetting the router by either using the reset button or just pulling the power and leaving it off for a comple minutes.
then reinstall the wifi adapter and try again.
if that doesnt do it try resetting the router while the wifi adapter is already installed.
