Hey everyone, alright so I have a Toshiba Satellite L450 -02n. The wireless was working yesterday but now it has stopped. The FN+F8 combination doesn't work, I tried system restoring but that didn't work, so I ended up reformatting. I've been searching forums endlessly and apparently there's an imaginary physical switch but I can't find it. How do i fix this?

I'm with Shaw internet services,
Current anti virus is Norton but it's disabled,
I've tried fixing my problem with the firewall on and off, it's currently on.
I'm not sure I really need to post the other details about the router because it's
my laptop that has the issue, (I'm using my brothers laptop to post this.)

Welcome to TSF,

Can you please post an ipconfig /all for review?
Please see this Sticky for the detail instruction.

Also, restart your computer and tap F8 then select Safe Mode with Networking, are you able to connect to the internet using this mode?

Just tried safe mode, that didn't work either.

Thanks for the ipconfig /all output, unfortunately there's no sign of Wi-Fi device at all.

Have you done s System Restore? Restore it to a point where you were able to wireless connect. According from your profile you have Windows XP, if this is try then here's a guide on the XP System Restore.

If that didn't work, please your computer's Device Manager. Click on Start, right click on My Computer, right click on Manage and in Device Manager locate Network Adapters. Do you see your wireless adapter? Is there a symbol - X, ? or !

I'm actually on Windows 7 Home Premium 2009.

I have tried the system restore option to a point when the wireless was working which didn't do anything, I ended up reformatting to out of the box.

I've navigated to Device Manager and located Network Adapters.
When I expand it the name of the adapter is shown - realtek pci fe family controller.

Don't see any X, ? Or !

You might want to visit Toshiba site support, locate and download the driver for your Wi-Fi device.

If above suggestion didn't help, uninstall Norton by using this removal tool. You may wish to reinstall it back if your issue has been resolved or try a different Anti-Virus software such as AVG, MSE or Panda - all Free version.

As advised I went to the Toshiba website and tried searching for the driver. I searched for "l450-02n" but nothing showed up.

I downloaded the removal tool and transferred it to my laptop. Removed norton, transferred AVG to my laptop and installed that. Still didn't work :(

Please reinstall your Norton back or if you want install MSE for protection. Don't leave out your computer unprotected.

I'll try and locate the make and model of your laptop. If I find it I'll give you the link for your Wi-Fi driver. Please confirm/double check the exact make and model of your laptop.

Thanks for all your help.

Confirming my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L450-02n.

My last resort is going to disassembling the bottom part to see if the wireless card is dislodged or something.

I couldn't find the 02N, perhaps one of those model in the attached file? 02N is not searchable, no results found.

Thanks really.

I should probably just buy a new laptop. This model is hopeless.

Take care.

Will it be cheaper to buy one of these USB Wi-Fi adapters or a Wi-Fi card?
