Hello I have a very similar problem but I was unable to fix it using your advice.

I can browse many sites like this even secure banking sites but I can not browse any Australian government .org sites and some other sites.
Centrelink - assists people to become self-sufficient and supports those in need
The sites are working as I am able to view them via my phone.

I use Firefox 14 beta I just upgraded from 13 which I hoped would resolve this issue, I reset Firefox default settings, cleared history, cache etc still nothing.

Can you browse those sites using Internet Explorer?

What antivirus and other security are you using?

Hello everything resolved I am now able to visit all those websites.

I am not sure how it is now working, I think a second or third restart resolved it.
