I have a Gateway NV59 that I had not used for some time. Recently I started to use it, and I cannot connect to any web pages. I am connected to my wireless network. I have tried all the diagnostic tests I can find on my laptop, and they do not identify the problem. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have Explorer, Safari, and Firefox browsers and non of them will work. Does anyone have any ideas? I am a competent computer user, but not a techie at all.

I think the problem is with my computer, not my network, because I have the same problem when I try to get on the Internet at my college on their wireless system.

My ISP is Verizon, I have DSL, and I have a wireless modem: Westell Model 7500.

I have both McAfee and Norton security software, but I cannot activate the Norton. My computer shows that the Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are On, but the Norton Internet Security is Off.

I cannot install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector because I cannot get onto any web sites.

Thanks for the latest info that you have provided. See if disabling both McAfee and Norton Services helps. Click on the Windows/Start Orbtype msconfig, press enter, locate the Services Tab and uncheck McAfee and Norton boxes.
It's not good to have more than 1 Security software running, it might create some issues.

Test your wireless connection after and if that didn't help at all, you might have to uninstall McAfee by using this Uninstall Tool. Also, uninstall Norton by using the Norton Removal Tool.

Once your issue has been resolved, you may choose to reinstall McAfee back.

Thanks, but unchecking the McAfee and Norton boxes did not work. I can't download the Uninstall Tool or the Norton Removal Tool onto my Gateway without an Internet connection. The computer I'm using now is a Mac.

My wireless connection to my modem is fine, but I can't connect to any websites.

Is your wired connection working? You may use your Mac to download the two Removal Tools then transfer the files into a USB flash drive or burn onto a CD. Removing McAfee and Norton might possibly resolve your issue.

I was able to uninstall both McAffee and Norton, and then was able to get onto the Internet to download and reinstall Norton. Now I'm back in business. Thanks very much for your help.
