I would appreciate if you can help me for the below matter:
I am running a system with windows server 2003 R2 and 10 clients with windows XP.
Recently the users have some connection problems and I noticed the below application error (in server's event viewer) which appears every 10-15 minutes.
"Details
Product Windows Operating System
ID 1054
Source Userenv
Version 5.2
Symbolic Name EVENT_FAILED_DSNAME
Message Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (%1). Group Policy processing aborted.
Explanation
A network connectivity or configuration problem exists. Group Policy settings cannot be applied until the problem is fixed."
To overcome this problem I have to restart the server almost every day but it still exists!
Thanks for the information that you’ve provided. Based on your latest post, there are some discrepancies in your ipconfig/all output and I’ve made some suggestions. Also, is the DHCP enabled from your Server or Modem/Router? What IP did you assign your Modem/Router?
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : ********
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 >> this should be the Default Gateway Address
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2 >> this should be the Server’s IP Address
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 127.0.0.1 >> this should be the Server’s IP Address
Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
The IP of the modem/router is 192.168.0.2 and DHCP is enabled.
The IP address of the server is 192.168.0.1
The IP address of the DNS server is 192.168.0.1
The server's TCP/IP configuration has DNS 127.0.0.1 (actually I don't know why!!!)
That's great news! Thanks for letting us know.
