Resolved: How can I make password on network drive?
I hope this is the right place for this question...
I'm a newb at this server stuff. I have successfully built my server and it is operational! I've created five folders for my siblings, which will be shared in the living room computer. Each folder will have its own drive letter (i.e. network drive). I have another computer in the living room which will be sharing these five folders on my network. This computer in the living room will just have an administrator logged on at all time, having a username + password for each person is too troublesome. Is there a way I can create passwords for each of the network drives that I will be assigning to each individual person on my server or on the living room computer? I am using windows xp professional on all computers, I can see my network drives working on the living room computer.
Thanks in advance.

Re: How can I make password on network drive?
If you create unique user accounts for each user, and then set the access rights of the individual drives to each user, it should accomplish what you are asking for. If that's not it, please be more specific.

Re: How can I make password on network drive?
i've done some homework, found out that I can make a user account with password and associate that with the network drive, but the PC that's in the living room will not have individual usernames, instead that PC will be logged on as the administrator (because there will be so many users that will want to use that PC). How can I make a password for every network drive on that PC logged as the administrator?
Thanks again for any advice.

Re: How can I make password on network drive?
You create accounts for each of the users on the main PC, and have them logon to their own account. With fast user switching, you can switch between the users without much trouble, and they'll have the bonus of having access to their files when they're connected. If they want to keep the files private, they just logoff when they walk away from that system.
If you are going to leave it logged as administrator, you lose your security advantages. You could have a secondary admin account that is specifically denied access to any of the user account files if you want to leave that logged in.

There probably are, but I have never used any of them.
