Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

I tried 3 cables, and even one of them was new. So im sure the problem isn't the cables. For some reason, whenever I connect a ehternet cable to my computer, I cannot seem to get internet connection through it.
Some days ago I installed this Wireless Lan device from a CD, that came with a sort of antenne I had to put on my computer. It works great, BUT its slow. Thats why i would like to go on internet with cable again.
I remember one day to another that my computer didn't detect the cables anymore, what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

Start with a physical check. You should be able to see about 8 gold contacts that come into contact with the Ethernet cable when you plug it in. Are they all in good condition?

When you say you can't get an Internet connection through it, do you mean you are able to connect to your LAN but not the Internet, or that you can't connect to either?

I hope it is a wireless G. That should do alright, however as the signal strength decreases so does the performance. The closer you are, and the better positioned the wireless router is, the better.

Re: Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

all the contacts are good. No bended or broken ones. And when I input the cable, there is a green light which means that the cable is connected (inputted corectly).
But the connectivity icon on my computer says that there is no cable connected.

Are you able to open up Device Manager? Although my screenshot here includes a couple more devices, it should look somewhat simple as this. If there are any devices anywhere in the windows that have a yellow "!" on it, let us know.

Re: Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

I do. As you can see: (im sorry I'm dutch)

When I click on it, it gives me this error:

Can not start this device because the configurationdata (files) in the register are imcomplete or damaged.
(I translated the error message.) And it doesn't let me search for solutions; because it gives me the error "can not load the device".

Re: Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

Looks like your drivers are not functioning properly. May want to try re-installing them.

Re: Computer doesn't detect ethernet cable.

ive had this problem (with the cable) since I installed my new graphic card, which I also had problems with since I had no sound after installing. I did download the latest version for my card, and now the sound is good. But ok I will try reinstalling all my drivers again, and see if it works.
