Hi all,
I have a user where he cannot get to the logon screen in Windows after every restart. What should I do?

By far the simplest solution is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when the computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

There is not enough info for us to offer a suggestion, what type of computer is this laptop or desktop ? does it have a make and model number ? what version of windows ? what does the user see at boot ? does it happen if they try safe mode tapping F8 as they boot and selecting safe mode.

Try starting in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, then type:
rstrui.exe
and press Enter to start System Restore.

If that doesn't work, try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

You have only answered 1 question, please give the other info requested what does the user see on screen, is it a black screen or bsod. We need more to go on, it could be a hardware issue or a driver issue the more you can tell us the more chance we can help you troubleshoot it.

Power it down, wait a few seconds, power it back up and start tapping [F8]. When you see the Menu, select Safe Mode with Command Prompt. At the prompt, type:
rstrui.exe
and press Enter to start System Restore. In System Restore, select a Restore point back before the problem occurred and follow the on-screen instructions.

In that case, the next thing to try is to boot from a Windows XP Setup CD, get into the Recovery Console and type the following five commands, pressing [Enter] after each:
c:
cd\
attrib -s -h -r boot.ini
del boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild
fixboot
Now remove the Windows XP Setup CD, press [Ctrl][Alt][Del] to reboot and cross your fingers.

And then update us on your progress please ...

Just one more suggestion,

You should be sure to test hard drive and RAM as the problem in loading the OS may have been ultimately related to faulty hardware. You may try Seatools and Memtest (listed in my signature) if you like.

Identifying faulty hardware can always prevent headaches further down the road.
