I need help setting up my dvr to view remotely. I have set up my port forwarding but when I check my ports to see if they are opened I can see port 80 is open but the rest I cannot see unless I enter the ip address followed by :80... 24.240.237.253:80 there I can check 5050, 6050 and 7050 are opened. I am stuck! This is the site I am using to check my ports: Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router. I can use 24.240.237.253:80 and get to log in of dvr but it will not log in. Thanks Billy
Unfortunalte I am with Charter for our internet service and they control the router - I do not have access to even view it - they have assured me that all ports are forwarded on my DVR static IP which 192.168.44.2. I have verified with Charter that ports 80, 5050, 6050 and 7050 are all port forwarded and protocol is "both" on each of them. It just seems odd that port 80 is open and the rest show closed unless I enter the external IP followed by ":80" (quotations not included in address. example 24.240.237.253:80 and then check port 5050 and it shows open. Thanks for your help my friend!!!
Not much you can be helped with if you have no control.
What happens if you use one of the other ports to connect to the dvr?
Doesn't the dvr manual tell you what each port if for?
Have you tried from OUTSIDE of your system to access the DVR cameras?
Yes - from outside is where my issue is. I can connect fine within the network just not remotely. The DVR says to use 80 or 8080 then use 5050 for command port, 6050 for media port and 7050 for mobile port. Does this make sense? I have followed all of their instructions even about using Internet Explorer and changiing the ActiveX settings - could there still be an ActiveX setting that was missed in instructions? I can get to the DVR log in screen but when I put in user name and password it just sits there. Or do you feel it is still in the port forward settings? Thanks again for your help - I am at a loss.
Are you using the zviewer software? You should be. The only port you should be using for external access is the command port. Did you set that port in the DVR configuration?
I am using zviewer for my iphone and internet explorer for my computer. you state I should only be using port 5050 for external access - I am not certain what you mean. Are 80, 6050 and 7050 not necessary to port forward? What about the instructions for 6050 for media and 7050 for mobile - should I change those on the DVR to 5050 as well? Hope you don't think I am too dumb but I just want to understand your help - and I do appreciate it. Exact instructions would be greatly appreciated. dvr ip is 192.168.44.2 external static ip is 24.240.237.253 Thanks
What I read in the manual is port 80 is for local access.
For phone and tablet access you use the "media" port which in your case I am assuming is 7050
The "command port" "is the first entry port for communication between the web client and the device, which is mainly used for controlling log-in, log-out, real-time preview, remote playback, and remote download, etc.
*Media Port: It is for media stream transmitting including real-time stream, voice stream and file stream etc." quoted from the manual
This would be port 5050 again if I read what you have listed correctly.
So go to a friends house, use the zviewer and put in your wan ip:5050 and see if can view the cameras.
I have tried on my iphone using zviewer with wan ip:5050 and port 7050. it goes to "connecting" and the icon just sets there and spins.
From a computer to remote I do not see zviewer for computers just iphone and android. I enter my wan ip and it goes to log in screen where I enter User: Password and command port (I assume this is port 5050) and it just sits there. Sorry it is so difficult but I appreciate your help.
From the charter info they are not forwarding any of the ports you requested beyond 80
You don't connect to the gateway ip but the usable /static ip which is 24.240.237.254
not 24.240.237.253
Why did you think .253 was your wan port ip? Gateways are never used in port forwarding. Note what I wrote in post #10
On another note that subnet mask 255.255.255.255 is for a single ip which makes me wonder if you have a real wan ip or is it just an extension of charters network. Extension of charters network means you can never port forward.
To test do a tracert yahoo.com via a command prompt and post the results for review.
If I check Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router there are no open ports on ip 24.240.237.254 but if I check ip 24.240.237.253 80 is open and if I check 24.240.237.253:80 5050, 6050 and 7050 are open. I will have to try the tracert when I am at the location. I guess I will call charter and ask again about the 255.255.255.255 and also verify which ip is actually static and which is gateway I had charter open ports 5050, 6050 and 7050 after I got the DVR to work locally.
