Can connect to wifi but no internet connection?

hello! I'm having a connection problem. I'm using a Compaq with windows vista. it will connect to my wireless router at home but has no internet connection. if i hook it up to the ether-net cable it works with no problem. i can take my computer to my sister witch has WiFi and it works with no problem.. i also have another identical computer that i use at home and i have no problem out of it.. its just old and beaten up. and i wanna use my newish laptop.. any help would be appreciated. im not good with computers so if you can walk me through it that would be awesome. my router is supplied by my internet provider.

The Default Gateway is you router. Under your Realtek Ethernet adapter it shows your Default Gateways IP Address 192.168.0.1 but under your Atheros Wireless adapter it does not show the Default Gateway. This means the wireless adapter isn't communicating with the Router.
Go to Start/Search and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click theWireless connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP IPV-4)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

Your Atheros Adapter is now showing the Default Gateway (router) IP Address. Now Unplug the router and the Modem's power adapters (unless you have a modem/router combo, then just that power adapter) Wait 10 seconds and plug in the Modems power adapter first (unless combo) in about 30 seconds, when all the lights have lighted up, plug in the routers power adapter. On the computer do the ipconfig /release renew again.
Also download WiFi inspector to see test your signal.

From another computer go to HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC*-* Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver - HP Business Support Center download the drivers. Copy them to a thumb drive transport them to your system then install the drivers. Make sure your anti virus program is temporally disabled. Then reboot when the installation is completed.

Go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Wireless connection/Properties and un-check Internet Protocol Version 6 IPV6. Also, unplug the Ethernet Cable when testing the wireless.

Hi cody,

I have moved your Thread to Networking Support for further assistance.

Do you have the latest Service Pack for your Vista which is SP2?
This is a typical issue in Vista on the type of Atheros driver that you are using.
Lets try a different tactic. Restart your computer, tap F8 and select Safe Mode with Networking. Locate Device Manager (click in Start, right click My Computer and select Manage to find Device Manager), locate the Atheros device and uninstall the device driver from your computer's Device Manager. Please download your Atheros driver from Atheros site, uncompress the file and follow this Tutorial on how to install the .sys file.

An update will be appreciated.
