Hi,
I have been trying to find out the reason for the BSOD, but to no avail. Please help. Attaching the Dump files.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

A single memory dump often doesn't contain enough information for us to work with.
Please provide this information: http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...-instructions-windows-7-and-vista-452654.html

Please turn Driver Verifier off by selecting "Delete existing settings" in it's dialog - then click on Finish and reboot your system. Driver Verifier is designed to cause BSOD's.

This looks like an HP system (due to the number of storage drivers present). Is this so?
Also, the drivers are very, very outdated and are likely the cause of your BSOD's. Please do the following:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

The systeminfo report shows only 980 mB of avialable memory. This means that the hard drive and the Windows Memory Manager have to work overtime (and it also slows your system down). I would suggest stopping a bunch of the startups with the Autoruns program - and adding more RAM. NOTE: In looking at the MSINFO32 report, there are a lot of startups - but not enough (IMO) to suck up all that RAM. I'd make sure that you're only running one application at a time and see if that helps the available RAM in the systeminfo report.

Please visit the PC Manufacturer's website and update ALL of your drivers.
Then visit Windows Update and get all available updates
Then install Service Pack 2
Then get any remaining updates.
Updates/Service Packs are by far the most important "fix" that we can perform - and updating all drivers first is essential.
Here's a link to my BSOD Index page for the above error. Have a look at the Usual causes and the KB articles associated with just this one error: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#0x0000009F

Several errors in MSINFO32 that might be hardware related. Let's try these free diagnostic tests:
I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.
If you find hardware issues, here's a link to the hardware forums: Hardware Support - Tech Support Forum

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link)
If you find malware, here's a link on how to post in the Security Center: NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help - Tech Support Forum
If none of this fixes the issues, then try this with your Norton:
Anti-Virus Removal:
Please do the following:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the Norton from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
- remove any remnants of Norton using this free tool: Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support
- IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus
- check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
NOTE: NEVER run more than 1 anti-virus, firewall, Internet Security/Security Center application at the same time.
More to follow when the 55 memory dumps are finished running.....

Please ensure that Driver Verifier is turned off. It will cause BSOD's.

Please run CHKDSK /R /F on all disks:
CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.
Still waiting on the memory dumps to finish. I'm off to work now, will be home in about 5 - 8 hours.

If both the hard drive diagnostic and the chkdsk /r /f pass, then try Driver Verifier according to these directions (after you've finished updating the drivers):
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:
Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

Thanks John for your detailed instructions. I have tried to follow them, updated all Drivers and uninstalled Norton replacing it with AVG. However I am still facing the BSOD.

Before I try the Driver Verifier, which as you said would be iffy, i wanted to try out sending the Dump files and Performance report to you again (if that is ok :) ) to try and see if we can pinpoint to something this time.

Also - I wanted to add that, whenever I try Shutting down Windows, it just remains hung there. I have to forcefully cut the power to shut windows down.

I appreciate your help a lot.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

I ran the memory dumps and suspect hpdskflt.sys (although it's not blamed directly)
Please turn off Driver Verifier by selecting "Delete existing settings" in the first window, then click on Finish and reboot the system.

Here's the Win7 drivers for this program: HP Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC -  HP 3D DriveGuard - HP Business Support Center

Please uninstall the HP Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter/HP 3D DriveGuard using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
Then install the freshly downloaded program.
Then monitor for further BSOD's.

Good luck!

Hi John,
I did not have HP Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter/HP 3D DriveGuard showing up in the list of installed programs, I however downloaded the patch and tried to install the same. However, the installation does not complete (tried several times). BSODs still continue :(

For some reason, my USB ports have stopped functioning after all the driver installs I did. This just keeps getting better :D

Thanks,
Abhishek.

It's not unusual to not have the HP disk protection program show up in the Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program applet.

Have you run the hardware diagnostics that I suggested earlier? A hard drive problem can cause similar problems - so the diagnostics are essential.

What's the exact model number of your HP laptop? It's on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop (it'll start with dv4).

Just FYI:
NOTE: I have seevere eye problems which have gotten worse over the last week. I may not be able to respond further until after my surgery at the end of this month or the middle of September. Feel free to PM another staff member for assistance if I do not respond in a timely manner. Please accept my apoloeis in advance.

I'll continue on as well as I am able to, thanks for your patience. Feel free to PM another staff member if it's taking too long.

Hi John,
I have run the Memory diagnostics and the results were of no errors. The HDD is new, I dont anticipate any issues there, the drive crashed bad after the BSODs started. CHKDSK didnt show any errors either.

I have tried installing 3D Driveguard independantly, but it didnt install, the installation kept rolling back.

The Laptop is a HP DV4T-1400, with Windows Vista SP2 now which was installed via the HP provided recovery disk.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

I work at a PC repair shop, and we regularly find new systems/hard drives straight out of the box that don't work. Please run the hard drive test anyway.

If the above program doesn't fix the USB issues also (I don't suspect that it will), then I'd have to suggest a clean install of Windows to rule out Windows and orhter software issues.

Here's how to do it:
For testing purposes, it's best to install Windows "clean".
This is, basically, installing it the way that Microsoft intended (using drivers from Windows Update).
This procedure is for Windows 7, Vista is similar (but has 2 service packs)

You will need your installation/recovery DVD(s) before you start. Once you wipe the hard drive there's no going back!!!

1. Backup all your data.
This will wipe everything off of your hard drive, so anything that you want to keep will need to be saved elsewhere.

2, Connect the system to the internet (if the system says disconnect from the Internet, then do so).
3. Use DBAN ( DBAN Download | Darik's Boot And Nuke ) or KillDisk ( Active@ Kill Disk. Hard Drives Eraser. Free Download. ) to wipe the entire hard drive (both are free). This will also delete any recovery partitions on the system - so the intallation/recovery DVD's are essential!!!
4. Install Windows by booting from the installation/recovery DVD
5. Visit Windows Update and get all updates
6. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates)
7. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates
8. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
9. Download, install, and update a free antivirus so you don't get infected while testing ( Free AntiVirus ).

If the problems persist, then the problem is most likely with your hardware.

CAVEAT: If you have an Asus motherboard, check the date on the C:\Windows\System32\driver\ASACPI.sys file. 2004/2005 is a problem, 2009,2010 is OK. Updates are available at the Asus support website.
