BSOD on HP laptop

I get the BSOD frequently and it is making it almost impossible to use my computer. I use a sprint air card for internet access an run Iolo system mechanic. I am not a techie. The initial BSOD says something about possibly new software being the problem. I've been guessing at the issue and uninstalling software at random. Help! Need instructions on how to fix this! LR

Re: Can't upload files to tech support

Hi LR -

If the zip file > 1.96 MB?

1.96 MB is the zip file attachment limit. However, you can attach two zip files to a single post - up to 1.96 MB EACH.

Make up a second folder, move some files out of the first into the 2nd; zip up each independent of each other. Attach the 2 zip files to your next post.

Hello,
I'm getting a BSOD on my HP Pavilion laptop. I've divided the files requested into two posts because of the file size.

Here is the requested information.....

running Windows 7
x64
original OS was Vista
OS was sent from HP/Microsoft as an upgrade when system purchased
machine was purchased new in Nov 2009
installed Windows 7 in Dec 2009
CPU--AMD turion (tm) x2 ultra dual core mobile ZM-87 2.40 Ghz
Video card -- ATI mobility radeon HD4650
motherboard-- ACPI X64?????
PS--????

BSOD seems to happen most when I'm working with files in explorer....trying to rename photographs, sort them into different files etc. It has happened when I'm online but I don't remember if I had an explorer window open.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

For some reason the collection application did not pick up any BSOD minidumps (it does this occasionally). Can you check C:\Windows\Minidump and upload anything you find there.

If there is nothing there then can you check the settings mentioned in this post to see if your system is set up correctly to collect dump files when it Blue Screens.

From the other info I can see traces of literally hundreds of Blue Screens - so if there are hundreds of BSODs and you have to zip them up use http://rapidshare.com/ to upload them.

Sadly there is not much other info on the BSODs - the only errors I can see are related to Iolo system mechanic (which you should uninstall immediately as it is a registry cleaner and a) Unecessary b) Damaging to your PC) and your Sprint Card (which you should make sure you have the most up-to-date software for).

Re: Windows 7 BSOD on HP laptop MINIDUMP

Hello:)
I have the minidump files but I'm not able to zip them up. I tried grouping them into smaller file folders but I can't seem to upload a folder as an attachment. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 files. Suggestions?

will uninstall iolo and find something else for malware protection. Thanks. LR

Hello again,
sorry for the delay....when I try to zip the minidump files or the MEMORY.dmp file (no matter the location--tried moving it to the desktop etc.) I get a "file not found or no read permission" error message.

Please advise. Thanks. LR

Try copying to the Desktop rather than moving them.

or Right click on Windows Explorer (in the Accessories folder) and select "Run as administrator".

If that doesn't work, try taking ownership:
Taking Ownership - Win7:
Right click on the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and select Properties
Click on the Security tab, then on the Advanced button
Then on the Owner tab, then on the Edit button
Click once on your account name, then put a checkmark in the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" Then click on OK.
Click OK on the warning dialog about reopening, then click on OK 2 more times to exit the dialog.

Then try copying the minidump files to your Desktop.
Then zip them up and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
