Hi guys ill tell you what i did, my dads laptop needed new antivirus, and i have jusr bought a legit Norton Internet Security performance pack 2011, which i updated to the latest version. I installed it and before restarting i uninstalled the old antivirus which was Kaspersky internet security. Before installing the new antivirus earlier in the day i installed Java.

Now when i rebooted the laptop i got to the point were i log into his account but it then blue screened on me and restarted without me getting a chance to read what the error was. This kept happening so i had to boot into windows recovery and do a system restore back to an earlier point, this has fixed the problem but as i was doing the restore, i checked to see if their was any affected software and it brought up both the java and the kaspersky.

Once everything loaded back up i uninstalled kaspersky again and rebooted and the blue screen came again. So for some reason the uninstall of kaspersky is causing this but why? so for now have left it installed on while i find out whats up.

Here is a error log i managed to retrive from windows about the blue screen in case it helps:

Hi did that and it told me to reboot, so after i rebooted the laptop it did the same blue screen again! Why is kaspersky causing a blue screen?

Had to do a system restore to get back this point and re-installed the Norton

The blue screen comes on and off too quick to see what the error was.

Thanks

The driver named in both dumps is the Atheros network adapter driver athrx.sys.
See if HP has a newer driver listed if not > ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????)

Also Windows 7 Kernel Version 7600
Means you need to update to SP1 driver updates and Service Packs go hand in hand.

These are Kaspersky drivers still on the system at the time of the bsod

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000010, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: fffff88001d075d6, address which referenced memory

Thanks for that well what has happened recently is my dads laptop got a big virus preventing him from booting into his desktop screen. However when he bought the laptop i set it up for him and made the original manufacture recovery disks for him to help do a factory reset if this ever occurred. All the disks burned perfect but when i came to using them their were four discs in total , after re-installing disk three and started disk four it corrupted. Which meant no OS was installed and the HDD was formatted. So got a HP OEM copy of Windows 7 home premium hoping it would install an OS and retrieve the original licence key for his windows. So far i thinks it jeeps coming back to saying its not a genuine copy of windows. However it got all updates needed for the laptop. How could i get hold of his original licence key, would it be stored on one of the recovery cd's?

As for the updates will try and update to sp1 and get the latest updates. The wireless modem was when we use to use a mobile broadband before getting home broadband installed.

Thanks
