Well, I've been putting off posting this for way to long now - I need help. First off, great forum. Love what you guys do to help all of us with our issues.

Second, here's my story: Got my first BSODs last autumn. I ran memtest and saw that my old memory was corrupt, bought new. BSODs persisted, ran some tests and wound up with buying new boot drive and PSU. Despite this, BSODs still persisted but I felt that I should know enough about computers not to bug anyone about it, so when i finally didn't come up with a solution I kind of started pretending I didn't have a problem. And here we are, a couple of months later and I'm fed up :) Here's my specs:

ท OS : Windows 7 x64
ท Win7 x64 is original OS for this system.
ท OS is full retail.
ท Age of hardware:
-Motherboard & CPU: 3 yrs
-Gfx card: 2 yrs
-RAM, boot disk, PSU: 3 months
ท Age of OS installation - 3 months. Reinstalled OS after first batch of BSODs
ท CPU: Intel C2D E6750
ท Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870
ท MotherBoard: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus
ท Power Supply: Corsair VX 550W

I have a feeling the problem is probably with the motherboard or Gfx card. The BSODs mostly come when I'm playing games, though I've had them at other times. I had the opportunity to test the card in another computer and played some games, which did not result in a BSOD. I've also tried another card in my computer, with no BSOD as a result.

I'll run memory and harddrive diagnostics first thing in the morning if needed.

Alright, second time around writing this post. I forgot to turn off driver verifier and got "interrupted" halfway through the first time...

First off, thanks a lot jcgriff2 for your fast and informative answer. I did everything as advised as far as drivers and programs goes. And to my amazement, playing a high-end game went great, no incidents. But I had some schoolwork to be done, and after a couple of hours with nothing but visual studio, opera and spotify running I got another BSOD.

So onto driver verifier as instructed, which induced a BSOD after perhaps an hour. I've run the error-reporting exe again, and I'll attach the zip file to this post. I'll run RAM and HDD diagnostics as I wait for any responses. Thanks once again!

Hi -

2 of the dumps were VERIFIER_ENABLED, but did not name a 3rd party driver. This usually indicates hardware failure.

From the software end, nForce divers should be updated. One dump named the Microsoft networking subsystem driver netio.sys - listed most likely because it issued a call to and had issues with your nForce Ethernet driver, which is old - written before Windows 7 RTM -
Code:

nvmf6264.sys Thu Jul 30 19:48:18 2009 (4A723142) - Ethernet
nvstor.sys Wed May 20 02:45:37 2009 (4A13A711)
nvraid.sys Wed May 20 02:39:40 2009 (4A13A5AC)
nvstor64.sys Tue Aug 04 20:31:07 2009 (4A78D2CB)
Driver Reference Table - Driver Reference Table - sysnative.com

Daemon/ Alcohol common driver is still showing in most recent dumps -
Code:
sptd.sys Sun Oct 11 16:55:14 2009 (4AD24632)
It is a boot driver and can cause BSODs without leaving a trace.

Any other virtual devices installed?

Disable sptd.sys via REGEDIT.

1. Create system restore point
START | type create | "Create a system restore point"

2. Go in to regedit -
START | type regedit

Code:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sptd
    Type REG_DWORD 0x1
    Start REG_DWORD 0x0
    ErrorControl REG_DWORD 0x1
    ImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ System32\Drivers\sptd.sys
    DisplayName REG_SZ sptd
    Group REG_SZ Boot Bus Extender
    Tag REG_DWORD 0x3
- go to the SPTD key in red
- 2x-click on sptd "folder"
- locate "Start"
- 2x-click on blue icon next to "Start"
- change the DWORD 0 to 4 (disable)

See if sptd.sys disablement helps.

One of the bugchecks = 0x3d = INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Interrupts refer to hardware and the only info I have on 0x3d is "... This bug check appears very infrequently...." - not much help to us.

Run memtest86+ - http://www.techsupportforum.com/2863029-post5.html

One other odd item I found in AutoRuns - it has a 2005 timestamp on it -
Code:

{0228e555-4f9c-4e35-a3ec-b109a192b4c2}	Gmail Notifier	(Not verified) Google Inc.
c:\program files (x86)\google\gmail notifier\gnotify.exe
You may want to disable for now. You can do so by running AutoRuns and un-checking the box next to the item under "start up" tab.

Hi, the Daemon driver is my bad - I thought I had uninstalled it but just forgot. Daemon tools is now uninstalled, and the driver disabled via regedit. No other virtual devices installed.

As far as the network drivers go, It seems as I have the latest ones, v73.14. Too bad they're that old.

Gmail notifier disabled.

I'll run memtest now, one stick at a time in alternating slots and see if anything comes up. I just had another BSOD, I'll attach the minidump just in case.

Bugcheck = 0x50 = invalid memory referenced

Run memtest86+

Also run chkdsk /r & HDD diags - http://www.techsupportforum.com/2828431-post7.html

Video may be an issue based on items I see in the dumps.

The nForce drivers are/ will become a problem.

Alright, chkdsk /r and other HDD diagnostics reported no errors.

However, I got another BSOD as i started up the computer prior to memtests - attached. Memtest was really strange. First time I ran it I got an error at the very last test. Unforunately I had both sticks in so proceeded to test them individually, in different slots. I spent an entire morning swapping sticks and running tests but never got another error from memtest.

So next step for me is I'll run driver verifier both with another (old) video card, and with other (even older) RAM sticks. If i still get a BSOD, I'm thinking about buying a $20 motherboard just for exclusion purposes. It feels better buying a cheap one as (if I've got a hardware error) if I'm gonna buy an expensive one I might as well get a newer form factor. And that's an expensive ordeal! :)

Given some of your errors were graphics related... how did testing go with your old graphics card?

Hey reventon, thanks for showing interest!

While testing with my old gfx I never got a bsod. However, when I put my newer gfx in another computer that didn't result in a bsod either.

So when a reinstall of windows didn't help, I picked up alla cheap $35 motherboard, as a last resort. Never had a bsod since! (Knock on wood...)

Thanks for all the help anyways, hopefully I'll be able to give it back someday, perhaps in the gaming forums :)

Good to hear you solved it. Sometimes replacement is what is needed.
