Question [SOLVED] BSOD occuring at random since updates

Since downloading and installing a number of Windows updates the other day, I've had constant BSOD crashes. They seem to be happening at random times, regardless of what I have running or am currently doing on the PC.

ท OS - Windows 7
ท x86 (32-bit)
ท What was original installed OS on system - None, custom built PC
ท Is the OS an OEM version - OEM OS installed from OEM DVD
ท Age of system - Approx 2 years
ท Age of OS installation - 1 month after OS release date (was running the Win 7 RC1 before this)
ท CPU - Intel Core2Duo E6850 3ghz
ท Video Card - Geforce 8800GTX
ท MotherBoard - Asus P5K
ท Power Supply - Hiper Type-M 630w

Attached are the logs required.

Dont know if its required, but I have a Windows minidump logfile that ill include in this post:

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 82e7a591, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: 9c3678f0, Trap Frame
Arg4: 00000000

Re: BSOD occuring at random since updates

perfmon reports a USB audio device as being disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why? Please uninstall the device while we're troubleshooting.

There are memory dumps from March, June and July that I didn't evaluate - as there were no memory dumps in August or September (so I assume that they're not significant).

This series of motherboards (Asus P5) has some issues with memory settings in Win7. As such, I'd suggest visiting the memory manufacturer's website and getting the recommended settings/timings/voltages from there - and set them in your BIOS (DO NOT use the Auto setting).

I do not recommend the use of USB wireless devices - instead I recommend using a wireless card that plugs into your motherboard. They are more robust and provide better throughput than the USB devices. They also have less compatibilty issues (which is a definite issue with Win7 systems and Vista drivers). So, please ensure that you have the Win7 drivers installed on your system: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15564

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:
Quote:
How To Find Drivers:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers (You can look them up here: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html ).
Please pay particular attention to any dated 2008 or earlier:
Code:

jswpslwf.sys Thu May 15 06:28:43 2008 (482C105B) - D-Link USB Wireless Adapter Driver (likely a part of your Netgear drivers) - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#jswpslwf.sys
seehcri.sys Wed Jan 09 03:41:37 2008 (478488C1) - Sony Ericsson Device 0016 (likely a phone) - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#seehcri.sys
ASACPI.sys Thu Aug 12 22:52:52 2004 (411C2D04) - Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker) - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#ASACPI.sys
DNISp50.sys Thu Nov 16 01:36:27 2006 (455C06EB) - PCAUSA NDIS 5.0 SPR Protocol Driver by Printing Communications Assoc - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#DNISp50.sys
The P5K series of boards doesn't support Win7 (according to Asus), so you proceed at your own risk.

The ASACPI.sys driver is a known BSOD cause - and there just isn't a Win7 version available at the Asus website. I'd suggest that you download the Vista 32 bit version (it's in the ATK section at this link: http://support.asus.com.cn/download/...ge=en-us&os=24 )
and then install it following these directions:
Quote:
Compatibilty Mode Driver Installation:
1 - Download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website.
2 - Uninstall the current drivers using the Control Panel...Programs and features...Uninstall a program applet. Then verify that the driver/device has been removed in Device Manager
3 - Right click on freshly downloaded driver installation file and select "Properties"
4 - Select the Compatibility tab - and do the following:
- Click on the "Change settings for all users" button
- Click on the box to select "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and then select Windows Vista Service Pack 1
- Click on the box to select "Run as administrator"
- Click on OK to exit all the dialogs
5 - Right click on the driver installation file and select "Run as administrator"
6 - Let it install and see if that stops the BSOD's.
Also, here's an article on adding legacy devices to Win7: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/m.../ee851685.aspx
Once again, no guarantees here - but it's better than nothing. Good luck!

Re: BSOD occuring at random since updates

Thanks for the quick reply, Ill go through all steps in your post now that im back from work and will post back the results.
Just to point out, that USB Audio thats disconected is a microphone with audio in/out jacks built into its base.

Also Ill look into upgrading the motherboard to something thats more compatible, but this is something I wanted to do anyway in the near future for the newer intel socket type and DDR3, but for now ill follow the steps youve given me to try and sort it.

About the external USB network adapter, thats something Ive been meaning to replace for a while because its causing some interference with my sound card / speakers thats causing some anoying background crackling while playing any sounds.
