[SOLVED] BSOD - new build

Windows 7 32bit SP1 on a new build:

· i5-2500k
· Sapphire 1GB Radeon HD 6950
· MSI P67A-C43 (B3)
· Power Supply: "Antec25 Earthwatts 650w"

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to what I'm doing when it happens.

Possibly useless info: I've been trying to install various drivers from MSI's site because originally the USB ports would all switch off whenever I connected my iPhone, saying there was a surge. Somewhere along the way that problem stopped happening, but unfortunately I can't remember whether the BSsOD were happening before or after I started trying to fix the USB problem.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. This is my first powerful machine in years so I'd like to get it working properly before Christmas!

Re: BSOD - new build

Hey buddy I had a very similar excperience with my new i7 build.

No patterens etc. I truned out to be the SSD in the end.

Do you have an SSD?

try an isntall on an old HDD and see if its fine

Run prime95 blend test for 24 hours - if this is fine maybe its storage....

Re: BSOD - new build

I don't have a SSD.

I left it on all day today uploading torrents with pretty much nothing else running, and it hasn't died. We'll see I guess.

With it being a new drive, is there a chance that "wearing it in" might actually help? The crashes are becoming less frequent (but again, that may just be down to what I'm asking it do to). I literally only got the thing built on Saturday.

Re: BSOD - new build

i have asked someone to check the dumps
Thanks!

Do no listen to this. Antec are are very well respected company and make fine products. 650 watts is fine for one gfx card, even a 6950.

I have TWO 6950's on 750 watts i7 2600k@4.8 , and its fine. use the asus power calculator if you are worried, and you'll see what i mean.
This is reassuring. I was wondering, what with it being a respected nerd haven in the tech centre of Nagoya, why they would give me a system knowing the PSU was insufficient.

I hope this is something as easily fixable as a driver. I'm so desperate that I've just downloaded the - gulp - optional updates for Windows 7. Time to restart and cross my fingers, despite thinking this will almost certainly achieve nothing.

Re: BSOD - new build

Hi,

The main issue here appears to be your keyboard driver - InputFilter_FlexDef2b.sys. I could not find very much at all about this keyboard online, my suggestion is to uninstall the driver and just use the basic functionality provided by the keyboard drivers included with Windows 7 for a week. If your problems stop it is obviously the sole issue.

Re: BSOD - new build

InputFilter_FlexDef2b.sys = Dongguan Siliten Electronic Co. - Flex Define HID Keyboard Driver

Code:
[font=lucida console]InputFilter_FlexDef2b.sys Fri May 28 20:13:38 2010 (4C005C32)[/font]
http://www.siliten.com/DownloadIndex.html

I suggest that you also remove Daemon Tools and PC Tools Firewall Plus until the BSOD epidemic is over.

Regards. . .

Re: BSOD - new build

Thanks, chaps! I removed that driver, and ran Windows Update. It tried to install the same one, but said there was an error because a more up to date driver was already installed (but the keyboard wasn't working).

I left the receiver plugged in and rebooted, and the keyboard started to work. So the problem was possibly two drivers trying to work on the same device at the same time?

I left it on a timer 'til 2am last night, and it survived the night for the first time. I'll leave it going today and see where I'm at tonight. But signs are looking good so far! Thanks for the help!
