Random BSOD / freezing on HP Laptop.

Hi, i am capcom1, or peter if you prefer.

straight into the point, i had this HP laptop for some time, and now i get frequent BSoDs (this is about 5 times a day) with totally different Crash Codes (0x000000XX but they were always different to previous ones) and sometimes BSoD with no code at all.

this is getting kind of troublesome, and i couldn't endure it anymore so i came to here =(.

So, the simple specifications are: laptop is DV6-2109AX, with 4gbs of ddr2 ram, and AMD duo core @ 2.1ghz. it has raedon mobility hd4650 loaded on it. It is sitting on top of a Coolermaster Cooling pad so i am sure that this isn't about heat.

also, i tried Reinstalling Bios (sometimes computer just freezes with LED pattern 2, which means corrupted BIOS according to the HP website, but it didn't solve the problem at all) i tried memtest and it was all ok. ( i also bought totally new ram for this, but this didn't change it)

i tried formatting the computer using the 'recovery partition' but it didn't work.

so i am getting really worried on what the problem is..

thanks in advance, and i attached some of my MINIDUMP files i found in Windows folder.

· OS - Vista/ Windows 7 ? Windows 7 Home premium
· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x86 / 32 bits
· What was original installed OS on system? Windows 7 home premium 32 bits
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? it was loaded on Laptop, i don't know what it makes my windows. i am guessing OEM.
· Age of system (hardware) approx 2 years?
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Yes, the day i got the problem, i tried 'recovery partition' and re-factorized everything.

· CPU : AMD athlon ll dual-core m320 @ 2.1ghz
· Video Card : Radeon Mobility HD 4650
· MotherBoard : Not aware of it
· Power Supply - brand & wattage: Not aware of it.

sorry, i tried to edit the prior 'BUMP' to put this on, but it was already 15 minutes ago and it was not possible.

but this is the required info that was on the notice, and i thought it would be good idea to put it on here.

Once you have restarted
follow these instructions to run driver verifier for about 36 hours
if you get any BSOD post the new mini dump file here for us to take a look at

http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...um.com/forums/f299/driver-verifier-windows-7-and-vista-bsod-related-473665.html

doing it right now...
so all the extra stuff that was plugged in was causing this?
As for making you remove extra stuff is to narrow down the issue because the mini dumps are pointing towards 3rd party drivers causing your BSOD

i did so, and also installed new drivers for the mouse and keyboard, then ran driver verifier on my laptop, following the above instructions.

so i will now just use my laptop like normal and see if it shows bsod again i guess?

thanks, and i will report back when any event occurs.

Now, i left it on for a while, and went to shop to pick up some coke for my self,

when i returned, there wasn't any bluescreen, but the notebook was just frozen on screen with chrome and some other stuff i had on prior to leaving.

the led lights on laptop (capslock + numlock) flashed in short-short-long pattern, and as long as i know this means there are some BIOS problems on the laptop.. i tried re-installing it with latest BIOS that HP website provided me, but it is still freezing.

even writting this short reply, it has frozen 4 times or something, so i had to reboot it every time. (it just freezes whenever it wants to, without clear pattern)

i had this problem also along with the BSoD, and this i don't know what's causing this..

any suggestions to this problem?

thanks, peter.

so, i see it's going to take a while..

i also suspected it to be one of the rams, and i actually replaced one of the rams with brand new ram i bought off the Technology shop, but the problem was present..

i will let all 3 rams run for the test one by one, and check both slots when error comes up, as slots can be problems too..

this probably will take quiet a long time, so i am planning to do it over night, and i will report back if i encounter any errors.

thanks, and see you in Lots of hours.

they were from different manufacturer, (one from hynix and one fron nanya)

the new one was hynix, but they were (new hynix and old nanya) both 2ghz DDR2 SO-DIMM ram, with PC6400 speed.

before it had hynix 1 gb and nanya 2gb installed, but also, they shared same speed of PC6400, but different size.

so in total:

1x Hynix Strontium(?) 2GB PC6400
1x Hynix 1GB PC6400
1x Nanya 2GB PC6400

hope this makes sense

i am on my phone at the moment.

Okay, status report:

first i have ran memtest with hynix 2gb ram (newly bought one,) and it had no errors.

then i installed nanya 2gb ram, but failed to boot it into memtest, then it went to windows, and it froze few minutes later. and i got curious.

so i installed 'proven to be working' hynix 2gb ram onto the same slot, and booted it up, and it didn't freeze for couple of hours (no BSoD too).

so i again, installed old 1gb hynix ram onto my laptop, then used my laptop for few hours, and it didn't go freezing / BSoD for entire session.

then i pulled both of them out, and re-installed the Nanya ram, and soon later laptop froze.

so now at the moment, i am using both hynix ram, and i left the laptop on for about 7 hours now, and it didn't go freezing / BSoD for entire time. (it used to go Freeze / BSoD if left unattended for about 30 minutes)

so i guess the ram was the one doing this.

thanks very much, and i think the case is solved.

- peter.
