I have a HP G62 Notebook windows7. It is about 2 years old.
I can switch it on but it freezes (the cursor won't move and the keys will not respond). Sometimes it freezes after 20 seconds sometimes after 45minutes but it usually lasts 15/20 minutes. It last longer in safemode than in normal mode. It doesn't unfreeze as far as i am aware. I have to switch it off with the power off button.
I switched it on and left it in BIOS and it didn't freeze, it lasted more than 3 hours (obviously much longer than it had done for the last two days)
I also did a harddrive test and that came back fine.
I tried several system restores back to december 16th and the problem still persisted.
I tried that thing where you take the battery out and hold the on button for 20seconds
My software all seems to be up to date
erm.. since yesterday I have been getting a message saying my laptop battery needs replacing.
I had my laptop fan replaced in summer.

I really don't want to take it into a shop to get it fixed because I feel like they will overchqrge me for something I can do myself e.g. replace the battery or wipe the computer clean.

In my event log there are a lot of critical errors if that is of any help. there are all boot performance monitoring or shut down performance monitoring.

I restored my laptop to factory settings and the problem seems to have gotten worse. What do I do now

 

When I say it got worse it still freezes but each time I start again it freezes at a later point.
Could this be a hardware problem?

 

You have been shown that norton is the most likely culprit and you did not follow testing your ram in the other thread which has been merged please read the posts from our analyst and do not do any further reinstall just work with him.
