Okso, I got this laptop from my girlfriend(which is now my ex-gf)which she had lost down her stairs, only god know how. Anyway, surprisingly, the comp got away with any damage, other than around 14 lost keys and some minor exterior damage, screen is ok too. But it wont boot Windows at all.. It boots with Linux without problems, i am of course using a different HD than the original one. I tried both XP, Vista and 7! None works, i cant find any answer to my specific problem so im turning here! :D Please help me though :)

Specs on the laptop and the HDD being used, and how you're installing Windows (hint - if you can install it, which requires more than one reboot, then I don't understand what not booting would entail).

Please get specific with the details of the machine, how you're installing Windows, and what you've tried to resolve it thus far.

Hi, thanks for your reply, maybe i was a little short in details but meh.
I've tried installing Windows on the HDD of a different PC (my desktop) and then inserting the HDD in the HP. The laptop have a AMD Turion Dual-Core CPU @ 2.4GHz if im not wrong.
512MB RAM (for a unknown reason i switched ram modules, dont know why its just 512MB all of a sudden now) its a nVidia chipset, unsure which.

I haven't done much, i know its nothing inside so i haven't tried opening it, as of the fact it works with Linux on it. But i dont know. Truth is actually that i haven't opened it because i dont want to. It takes freakin' ages and i might destroy it even more in the worst case.

Well, first things first - you can't just install Windows on a (different) desktop machine, move the HDD back to the laptop, and expect it to boot. You would need to run sysprep (C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown ) first, then move it. That's for starters - next, running Windows 7 on a system with 512MB of RAM (whether it's really 512MB or not installed, the BIOS reports 512MB, so that's what Windows will see and use) will likely run pretty poorly even if you do get it to run.

Hmmm... I figured, though i have done the same thing to install windows other times. But anyway, im not installing 7, im going to install Windows Vista, even though that is one of the dumbest things to do. But i can just grab one of my other RAM sticks and use that, 2GB, and the CPU is correctly a AMD Sempron X2 @ 1.8GHz, not 2.4GHz. but. The CD drive doesnt start on boot, it does work, and i cant enter the system at all. When using the HDD i installed windows on from the desktop, it comes to the loading screen where vista loads, and then fails. So i cant do anything from the system menu or anything at all.

Emphasis mine below, because I think you missed the most important part of my post and then BUMPed...

and yes, as i said, the CD Drive works, but doesnt start when i boot the machine for some reason. I have to do this without the HDD in unfortunately, if not, it will just boot directly on the HDD, and bsod, and do the same thing again.
