Computer Specs
-Manufacturer, Cyberpower
-Windows 7 Home 64bit, Service Pack 1 (Legal copy)
-Gigabyte socket 1156 motherboard (unknown model)
-Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93ghz (water cooled by Corsair H50)
-EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 4gb
-8gb Kingston ram (specifications and speed unknown)
-800 watt Corsair power supply (I don't know the other specs but it's brand new and definitely meets the requirements for all of my components)
-4 case fans in push pull setup (all 120mm and 60cfm)
My Problem
I have 2 problems with my computer, both of which require me to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to hard reboot (and I wait 30 seconds before turning it back on because I heard that was good somewhere...). My computer either:
A) randomly loses signal to the monitor, resulting in the monitor going to sleep while my computer is still on. When this happens, audio from iTunes continues to play normally, but I cannot pause it or control the volume which I can usually do from my keyboard. This leads me to believe that I have absolutely no control over my computer when my computer loses signal with the monitor. This can happen at any time... when I'm playing a videogame, browsing the internet, or when the computer is locked and I'm not using it at all.
B) randomly freezes. This locks up the computer completely and I am unable to move my mouse or control anything. I don't know if audio continues to play because this hasn't occurred while I've been listening to something on iTunes (yet). This can happen at any time, and has even happened before the computer has turned on (during the black windows 7 screen before I was prompted to type my password).
What I know
-This is most likely a hardware issue, because these issues have been going on since the beginning of the year and I have had multiple reformats since then and have tried to resolve the issue by replacing drivers, uninstalling random software, and going back to previous versions of patches and drivers before these issues started.
-This is not an issue with the power supply. It has been recently replaced and I have had these issues before and after replacing the power supply.
-This is not an issue with the RAM, same situation as the power supply.
-This is not an issue with heat because my case has superb air flow and the highest temperature I've seen my CPU at is 36*C while playing a videogame called Guild Wars (according to Real Temp).
-the water cooler has not been leaking
What I think
-This issue started around the time my power would randomly cut off (because of thunderstorms), which I think damaged either my Motherboard, CPU, or Graphics Card (could some other part be causing this issue?)
Which do you guys is most likely the problem? Could a damaged hard drive possibly be the cause of my problems? I'm planning to replace either my motherboard or cpu soon (though I think it's most likely caused by the gigabyte motherboard... every gigabyte 1156 socket motherboard I've seen has gotten terrible reviews on newegg).
