I just got a new computer and I've been getting regular BSODs, seemingly related to use, possibly Chrome. The errors shown on the window vary, sometimes say KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and sometimes say something about ntfs.sys. They never say anything else and the error codes seem to suggest a possible hardware problem. They also do not generate a dump file. Rather, they get stuck showing "disk initializing" and to get out, the computer has to be forced off. I ran a diagnostic on the memory and on the harddrive and both passed. I ran Driver Verifier as in the instructions and got a BSOD showing TfSysMon.sys and the kernel dump was saved and is included below. I guess I can remove Threat Fire and try the Driver Verifier again. All drivers are fully updated.

HP 1611 Motherboard

Remove Threat Fire and see if the crashes continue.

I uninstalled Threat Fire and now the computer is stable, if laggy, with Verifier running, at least for several hours.

A few hours after turning off Verifier, while I had several things open and was talking on the phone, another BSOD appeared. I have the image, but there is no dump file because it got stuck, I took an photo with my phone.

If ThreatFire isn't completely stable, I'm not that worried. I'm worried about what is causing these BSODs and it doesn't seem to be driver related.

Thanks,

Thorn

STOP 0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Usual causes: Memory, Paging file corruption, File system, Hard drive, Cabling, Virus infection, Improperly seated cards, BIOS, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

You have SP1 installed so you can scratch that off. 3rd party firewalls are known to cause this type of BSOD. Do you have any installed?

If crash dumps aren't being generated then it's most likely a hardware issue.

I guess I'll just return the computer. Thanks for your help.

I basically figured it was a bad motherboard.

EDIT: No, I'm using the Windows Firewall. And windows management of the paging file.

I didn't even see that you said it was only a week old. Yes. Return it. With a computer that new, you shouldn't be having issues like that.
