BSOD driver_power_state_failure can't diagnose

Hello. I'm having troubles with my Dell notebook, it BSODs when trying to sleep or hibernate. Some facts that might help diagnose the issue:
  • This started recently, like two weeks ago.
  • This might have started after installing Connectify (http://www.connectify.me/docs/index.html), which is (I think) no more than a frontend for setting up Windows' Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. I've uninstalled the virtual adapter from the device manager but the crashes continue.
  • I've also updated the GPU and ethernet card drivers (this is reflected in the last and previous minidumps) with no luck.
  • I don't know why I'm seeing only 5 minidumps, since this has happened a lot of times and I don't remember having run ccleaner or anything like that.
  • I've run sfc /scannow but it didn't help.

I'd really appreciate any help with this; it's pushing the limits of my IT abilities...

btw great tool jcgriff2

Hi -

I'm glad you found the app helpful, thank you!

The bugchecks on all 5 dumps were the same, but the probable cause shifted from your Realtek NIC (after the update) to bcmwl664.sys - the driver for yur Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card -
Code:
[font=lucida console]
bcmwl664.sys Tue Jul 07 20:45:04 2009 (4A53EC10)
 [/font]
The Dell Support driver download page for your Vostro 1520 has drivers for Intel 5100 or 5300 wifi. I dont see one for the Dell 1397 for Windows 7 x64 -

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...abIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False

The page for Vista x64 does have a 1397 driver w/ Aug 2009 timestamp -
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...abIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False

I would try that, but have a feeling it may be the same July 2009 driver you now have.

Also, these drivers need to be updated. They are Dell OEM drivers and appear related to video - probably webcam -
Code:
[font=lucida console]
OEM13Vid.sys Wed May 28 21:19:21 2008 (483E0499)
OEM13Vfx.sys Mon Mar 05 05:55:47 2007 (45EBF733) [/font]

thanks a lot for the answer, and again, for the app.

i've had another shot at this connectify issue. i've manually uninstalled it, and took down the virtual wifi using netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow. i've read somewhere that this feature requires driver support, and that poor implementation was what kept it in an "unfinished feature" status. probably I combined that with dell's lackluster support and created a chaos. will post back if it BSODs again, though.

btw, what's the scope of windows update's driver updating? many times it offered to update the gpu's driver, but it lags considerably what nvidia posts as whql drivers. a few days ago I received an update for a decade-old HP printer, but none for the wlan or those you mentioned. should I keep manually searching for drivers as in the XP times?
