OS: windows 7

First I got browser hijacked in IE 8 when I clicked on a link from google search and it took me somewhere else. This happened n chrome as well. This dosen't happen all the time but sometimes. I believe the pop up or redirect is from some webpage/program that has LINKSR in the URL. Then I checked windows update and discovered it wasn't working and neither is windows defender, firewall and security essentials. Its as follows:

Windows Update
When I try to run windows update I get the following message:

Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

When I type n services.msc in start windows update is not even listed as one of the running services.

Windows Defender
When I try to run windows defender I get the following message:

Windows Defender
This program is turned off
If you are using another program that checks for harmful or unwanted software, use the action center to check that program's status.
If you would like to use this program, click here to turn it on.

When I click to turn it on, I get the following message:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (Error code: 0x80070424)

Windows Firewall
Update your firewall settings. when I try to update by clicking on use recommended settings I get the following message:
Windows firewall can't change some of your settings
(Error code: 0x80070424)

Windows Security Service
When I try to turn it on get this message:The windows security service can't be started

When I called microsoft support live help. They said I had malware [like I don't know] and willhelp me remove it for $99 which I can't afford. Can anyone help please!!!. I followed the spyware first steps and here are the results. Below is the 'DDS.txt'

Hi there,
my name is Marius and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems.

Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.

  • First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
  • Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.
  • If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.
  • Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.
  • Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
  • Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
  • My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.

Hit the Windows-key, point to control panel, start add/remove programs.
Search for and remove the following programs

Ask Toolbar
Ask Toolbar Updater
Dogpile Bundle Toolbar
McAfee Security Scan Plus
Picaboo Desktop
Search Results Toolbar
YTD Toolbar v6.9
close the window.

Combofix should only be run when adviced by a team member!
Link 1
Link 2

Important - Save the file to your desktop!

  • Deactivate any and all of your antivirus programs /spyware scanners - they can prevent CF from doing its work.
  • Run Combofix.exe

When finished, Combofix creates a log file named C:\Combofix.txt. Please post its content in your next reply.

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
