Hallo to all, this is my first time here & hope I am doing this right.. am having terrible trouble with pc, very slow browsing.outlook express slow to open, and some progrms like ms word are taking longer and occassionally not opening at all. Have quite a few pop ups with IE, norton says i have bargain buddy problems but i cannot find it anywhere. I have tried searching for files and folders, have "show hidden files and folders" ticked & " hide extensions for known file types" unticked, still no joy.Only thing in add & remove programs that i don't recognise is DMVlite, which seems to have made itself at home as i can't get shot of it. Scan regularly with norton 2005, adaware & search & destroy.I have deleted all temp folders in safe mode, and turned off system restore and have tried to analyse my hijackthis log several times with the info i have found on the net..alas to no avail. Searches for help have been bringing me to this site for a while now and today i decided to register... so please if you can offer any help i would be a very grateful :girl: !!
Here is my hijack log..many thanks in advance

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSCFG16.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\WireConnect.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DDEsvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wiacz2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netreg.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows System Configuration] C:\WINDOWS\SYSCFG16.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows DLL Loader] C:\WINDOWS\SYSCFG16.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Wireless Conections] WireConnect.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winsvr manager] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DDEsvr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Agent] C:\Windows\system32\mech\cygmech.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Help Temp Files] netreg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Agent] C:\windows\system32\mech\cygmech.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Wireless Conections] WireConnect.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Help Temp Files] netreg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Help Temp Files] netreg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ZAr4RWinO] wiacz2.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Help Temp Files] netreg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Wireless Conections] WireConnect.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Help Temp Files] netreg.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSCFG16.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\WireConnect.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DDEsvr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wiacz2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netreg.exe
C:\Windows\system32\mech\cygmech.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

OK, run these programs now:

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Then delete all those files found by Norton (if they still exist after doing the above scans). For these two, delete the whole folder names:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmss\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\

Restart and give us a new HijackThis log.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

I can't see the whole path and filename for that TDS-3 filescan. If you don't know what it's for, delete it since it could be a webdownloader.

Boot into Safe Mode. Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in each of the following hitting Enter after each new line:

C:
cd \windows\system32
attrib -r -h -s netut80ex.vxd
attrib -r -h -s mac80ex.idf
del /f /q netut80ex.vxd
del /f /q mac80ex.idf
exit

Restart and see how it runs now.

Still slower than should be

Hi, I have completed the steps you set out for me, i then ran Norton and it came back clear, TDS3 found 2 trojans which i deleted, S&D deleted the few prblems it found, and adaware was ok too. I have run norton utilities find & fix windows problems and there was nothing major on that, and I am still not running as fast as i think it should. It is not an old machine, has tons of free space, loads of memory and i have broadband.. but still its taking about 5 - 10 seconds to open browser and find pages, firefox seems slower than IE...do you think its no longer a spyware problem?

Download StartDreck http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/StartDreck.zip

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'mark all'

Uncheck the following boxes only:
System/Running Process -> List Modules
System/Drivers -> NT Services
System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers
Press 'OK'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post the log in this thread.

Run a fresh TDS3 scan and make sure you give us the FULL path names.

I think you have a trojan there. Run the online virus scan and see if it finds anything. Just to double check also run the TDS-3 program:

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

.............its frustrating... it appears ok by all scans but its still slow!
I've only had it since December and initially, the second u clicked on a program it was open, same with net, now its between 5 & 6 seconds for most programs, at least 10 for outlook express, and anywhere between 5 and 13 for browser to open and for pages to load... I have IE & Firefox...neither any better than the other...what on earth can it be?

it took 19 seconds for page to change after i submitted last response!!
