Download Ewido Security Suite

• Install Ewido Security Suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido

You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.

• On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
• Then click on Start Update.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility.

Run Cleanup! using the following configuration:

1. Click Options...
2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp!
3. Uncheck the following:

• Delete Newsgroup cache
  [*]Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions
  [*]Scan local drives for temporary files

4. Click OK
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.
* CleanUp! will not create any backups!!

Run Ewido with it's updated definitions...it's important that all windows must be closed)

• Click Scanner
• Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
• Click OK when prompted to clean files

With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option:

• "Perform action on all infections"
• Choose clean and click OK.

Once finished, click the Save report button & save the report to your desktop

** Ewido scan would require at least an hour.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner

1. Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls

Begin the scan by selecting My Computer

• If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  [*] Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
  [*] Click on see report. Then click Save report

Please post that log in your next reply along with the results of the Ewido scan and a new HijackThis log.

 

Thanks a lot Reid, Here's what happened:

1-Downloads went fine
2-Can't restart in safe mode, my username / password won't work there. I'm on a company laptop with multiple domain options. In regular mode, I always use the same domain, for which I have login credentials. In safe mode, there are no domain options. I think it is defaulting to one for which I don't have the credentials. So, I risked it and followed your directions in regular mode . . .
3-Cleanup! went fine.
4-Accidentally skipped Ewido scan (didn't do it all in 1 session and forgot)
5-HJT scan had the entries you indicated. I fixed them both.
6-Panda Activescan went OK. Here's the report:

You did the right thing restoring your Wireless Aircard file, Ewido is doing this alot lately with removing Internet devices when it recognizes them as 'Dialers'.

Please leave raddrv.dll in quarantine. Reason being, a few AV identify this as a worm: http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.remadmin.html

A network administrator will use more sophisticated software in order to acess computers over the LAN.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Run HJT and fix the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rrsi] "C:\Program Files\cude\tocb.exe" -vt ndrv

Delete the following file and folder:

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\wbjnxrpa.dll
C:\Program Files\cude

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Please run run Panda Activescan.

Since the smitrem tool didn't run smoothly, I'd like to do another online scan to be certain there are no remnants of that infection:

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.

• The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
• Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:

    • Scan Archives

• Click OK & have it scan My Computer
• Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

Good idea. Looks like there is still something lurking around.

Kaspersky went pretty well, but it recommends disabling any running anti-virus applications. I could not disable Symantec Antivirus Auto-Protect. It is locked. The scan seemed to run smoothly, though.

Note that the Radmin files are related to the Radmin file that Ewido quarantined during our firt cleanup; the one that I thought was for Nework Admin access. I haven't received confirmation of this yet.

There is no need to be concerned about the Kaspersky findings as the RadAdmin Program is installed intentionally by your company.:smile:

Your system appears clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final steps:

Reset hidden/system files and folders
Windows XP
===============
Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
* Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
* Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Enable Windows Auto Update
*Go to Start>Run - type wuaucpl.cpl
*Tick on the checkbox - "Keep my computer up to date"
*Under Settings, choose "Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify".
Click on "OK".

Create a new System Restore point
Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
* Select the System Restore Tab
* Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Click Apply
* Then untick the same checkbox & click OK
This will prevent any reinfection from previous restore points.

Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Spyware Blaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
Spyware Guard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer

I understand this is a work PC, so be sure to check with your Supervisor before installing any additional progams.
