Hi. I'm currently at my friends house and she asked me to take a look at her desktop computer. It was extremely slow, she said, and that they'd been having trouble with their Norton's anti-virus. She said that her father had fixed it by installing something called 'XP Defender'.
Now, I know better and I realize that XP Defender is a rogue, and it's more of a virus than an anti-virus. And normally, I'd be able to easily enough get it off of the computer but now she tells me that her father paid 80$ for this XP Defender.
My question is, how dangerous is it that these XP Defender people now have her credit card information?
And, is the program substantially more dangerous to the computer now that it's 'installed'?
