Not sure if this is going to solve your CD drive issue, but you do have a nasty aboard.

Download haxfix.exeand save it to your desktop.

• Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
• Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
• Click "Next"
• When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
• Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:

1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix

• Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing "Enter"
• Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
• Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.

• Open this folder program files > haxfix and double click on fix.bat (or double click on fix.bat desktop icon)
• Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
• Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing "Enter"

If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.

• Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press "Enter"
• The computer will reboot
• After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
• Post the contents of that logfile along with a new HijackThis log.

It seems that some of the problems were removed but I still have the skippy CD drive and some other problems including a virus of some sort that interferes with sounds on my computer that are not MP3 by making it echo and sound lower and darker. Another thing is, in my task manager, SYMWSC.exe will take up 95-98% of my computer usage if I do not shut it down and I figure, because I can't even get into Windows Firewall and what not, that it has been hijacked.

Installed by Norton Internet Security Center. This program is essential to operation of this program when installed on your computer. Disabling this service may affect Internet access.

It appears you had Norton AntiVirus installed on this machine previously. I see parts of it, and Trend Micro AV, as well as AVG. Having more than one Anti-virus can cause system conflict and slowdowns.

The remnant of Norton controlled whether Windows Firewall was active or not.

Choose one to keep, and remove the others.

Any antivirus program must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:

re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall​

Please use the instructions on this page to completely uninstall your Norton Products.


What leads you to think a virus is causing the sound issues? Is one of your programs alerting you to a virus onboard?

I settled on one security program. The problem with the D drive is still there as well as the one that screws with my sound to make that dark echoey noise. I am confident it is virus-related as I stopped this problem before by doing a system restore but now that I have no restore points before this problem I can't fix it.
