Briggs & Stratton 17 hp with 4 bolt fuel pump. Rebuilt fuel pump and still unable to get fuel to the carb. Engine runs fine with carb filled with gas until gas runs out. Gas tank is full.
First make sure the fuel path between the fuel pump and float valve is clear plus that the line from the fuel tank to the pump is clear. Then check to see if the fuel pump check valves are sealing if they are not then the fuel pump body would need replacing as these check valves are non replaceable.
Have checked the valves, used a different block, and have fuel to the carb. Have even connected a gravity tank to the fuel pump without any success. Pulled the top of the arb, made sure the needle valve is free and fuel inlet port is not plugged. Is there a possibility that it might be something with the breather?
Yes it could be. Anything that prevent the crankcase from pulling vacuum on the impulse line would do it. On the carburetor I have here the impulse port is the brass fitting.
I have had several of these horizontal oppose Briggs where the gasket on the square crankcase cover plate would be blown or the some of the bolts completely lost.
