Hi Guys, Santa is bringing me a k/board
It has a few macro keys.
My question is, can I use a macro key for my master password, my password is kinda long, and a pain, I have the habit of saving password, just to avoid the need to key it in, which isn't good idea, however if I can prog a macro key with my p/word .............. if so how secure is this.
I have looked at the fingerprint thingy, but read there is some security issue, regarding p/word held in registry which isn't good or something.
I never thought of doing that....shoot, try it and see if it works. As for security/safe....I would guess so, unless to tell some one what the macro key is and does.
As in the fingerprint method, the password has to be stored SOMEWHERE so that the macro can recover and use it. Likely that would be in the registry where the keys for the keyboard would be. Unless it is stored in some well encrypted form, it would likely be very insecure. YMMV
Only slightly more secure than writing your password on a postit note and sticking it to the monitor. Everyone using your PC, has immediate access to your pw. They only need to know where and when to use it.
So not a bad Idea then
there isn't anyone else that will use my PC,
Perhaps I can use a macro key for my e-mail addess as well, just imagine a couple of buttons and e-mail and password done and dusted, I hate those passwords.
Had alook today at "LastPass" this software looks ok, I like the
"LastPass Sesame" pretty secure.
many thanx for the input
If no one else is using your computer, why put a password on the account in the first place?
As for macros in general, they are created and accessed by the keyboard software, which is loaded until Windows boots (like all the other software that loads when you boot into Windows), thus the macros likely won't work to login to Windows. I've not tested it, but I know my software doesn't load until I am already in Windows as I can see my profile load, which changes the color of my keys.

Think about how many people live in Apartments where management can walk in at any time, in some cases unannounced. Always, and I do mean always password protect any account. Period. It doesn't even have to be an Apartment it can be a Family member you would never expect that would misuse your account.
