I have read numerous threads before posting one of my own. Could not locate exactly my symptoms.
I have Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista. I came home last night to a solid amber light on the front panel. During this time I suspect that I had some Dell automatic updates get installed. They have been waiting for days now, but I kept putting off allowing them to update; so at some point they updated on their own. Anyways, I kept hitting the power button until finally the machine booted. I have not seen the solid amber light for some hours now. The machine is booting as normal, but for no reason that I can see, it will just power down and back up and go through the normal boot. It may go along for hours and then suddenly power down and back up. I read things to make me think it could be the PSU, MoBo, Graphic card, etc. Any help or hints would be much appreciated. Thanks

Check the Windows Event Viewer and see if Windws is logging any errors.
