I have an HP Pavilion a6137c desk top with a Intel 82945G onboard video. Can I install a larger more powerful card ( for gaming ) on my unit? If so, what problems may I run into and what are some cards I should be looking for?

That Mobo has a PCI-E 16X slot so you can install a PCI-E graphics card. As mentioned above, you will need a new quality PSU also.
The PSU you will need will depend on the graphics card you select.
You will also have to disable onboard graphics, in the Bios, before you can use a dedicated graphics card.

Post your price range and what games or things you plan on doing with the card.

If the machine has the stock power supply in it , somewhere around 120$ or more would be a good budget to start with for a power supply and video card. You pretty much don't want a videocard that will work with your current power supply.

I have no clue as to my current power supply.I've not opened this unit as of yet. I'm sure it is just a stock supply unit.As for the types of games to be played, along the lines of the Call of Duty series.Price wise, I'm pretty open in that reguard.

Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon 4850 512MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102833 - $109.99
Corsair tx650w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005&Tpk=corsair 650 - $99.99

Will play all modern games on high to ultra high graphics settings depending on your screen resolution, since it's Vapor-X it will run cooler than most 4850s, and it's a decent price. The Corsair tx650w is a very good power supply for a great price, most of the ones in that power range that are cheaper are *****. Is that good for your budget?
