I have a Dell Inspiron 15R and is loaded with Windows 7 OS.
I usually watch online movies. But after watching the movie for around 10 to 15 minutes, the movie window screen goes blank (white color) but the movie continues uninterrupted as I can hear the audio distinctly.
The observation is that the following things happen in sequence:
- the system hangs for around 3 - 10 seconds
- the entire monitor goes black and refreshes back to the initial screen status
- but the movie screen goes blank (white in color) but audio can be heard.
- if the brightness of the screen was lower before going blank, after the refresh, it restores to the high brightness.

But unfortunately, I have to refresh the URL and start the movie afresh.

I am not much of a games person, but I have observed that sometimes this situation happends for normal computer usage as well - the computer hanging for split seconds, screen going blank and then resuming as normal after the refresh with increased brightness (in case the brightness was low earlier).

Also a warning message appears (don't recollect exact wording), something like - "your display driver had stopped working and now is working normal).

The dispaly adapter I am using is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

Hi, Have you tried updating to newest video drivers from dell's website?

May be worth trying a different driver from ATI's website. Maybe the dell one has conflicts with your particular card.

Send a message via Skype™ to Niram

This looks like a motherboard issue

Remove all of the ram from the motherboard and boot

See if you get any beeps

If there are no beeps then your motherboard is faulty

Thanks for all your replies. The issue seems to be gone now after almost 2 months of updating with latest Dell drivers. Not sure which particular update fixed the issue though.
