So every time I watch a movie it can be on Netflix, Hulu, iTunes or YouTube. Or I can be listening to iTunes music, pandora etc my laptop freezes. Some times it goes away right away or sometimes lasts a min or two. Then the screen refreshes and then it says something about a video driver crashing. My Sony vaio isn't that old maybe close to two years. And it started acting like this after one year. Drives me nuts. Can anyone help me find a solution? It runs windows 7. Thanks.
Cleaning would be using a compressed/canned air to blow out any built up dust that may be blocking the cooling vents and causing overheating that will in turn cause problems as you describe.
Try using the laptop elevated to allow more air to the vents.
i barely had the chance to actually clean it yesterday...giving it today to see how it goes.... and it has something to do also i think w the video drivers. becuase if and when i do have it freeze up and the sound starts messing up...after the min or 2 its frozen....the screen would go black then back to normal and an error would pop up on the bottom right saying...there was a problem w the video driver. im crossing my fingers its just a good cleaning.
Try booting your computer into safe-mode and leave it on desktop and see if it freezes.
Turn on your laptop, just before windows start to load (Windows icon) hold F8. This should bring up a list of options:
Repair Your Computer
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video (640x480)
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Directly Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
Start Windows Normally
You will want to choose "Safe Mode with Networking". Let you computer sit at desktop and see if you experience any freezing.
i dont get what ur trying to tell me what to do A1tecice...
soooooo i cleaned the vents and what not...i even moved the latop to a better area where it can get even better ventilation...and nothing! still freezes randomly.
any other suggestions? i wish someone knew someplace legit and low cost here in the chicagoland area i can take my laptop to.
Time to run checkdisk on the hard drive. In the Search menu type "Run".
then click on "run" and when box opens type in "cmd" and hit "enter" on keyboard and then in the box that opens type in chkdsk /r just as written with skipped space where it is, hit "enter" on keyboard and you will get a message that it will have to run on restart...type in "Y" for yes and hit "enter" on keyboard and then restart computer and let us know what happens. This can take a few hours so walk away and check back and don't panic if it takes a long time.
