HELP! I want to upgrade my video card to play Skyrim...

If I were to upgrade my graphics card for my HP a6700y desktop to PNY VCGGTX560TXPB-OC-S GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card what size power supply would I need? Also, would I need to upgrade my motherboard or cpu, or both? Any help is greatly appreciated! My FPS is terrible playing Skyrim and I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it. My current Geforce 430 card does not support Directx 11, go figure....HELP!

Re: HELP! I want to upgrade my video card to play Skyrim...

The GeForce GT430 does support DX11 but it is far from a gaming card. The stock CPU is pretty slow so a higher end GPU is not going to perform as well as it could. For a 560Ti I would use at least a 650W power supply (high quality, not some cheap off brand).

What motherboard is in that? Im thinking it only has a PCi-e x16 slot. Not a 2.0 x 16.

Not sure if a PCI-E 2.0 card would fit in there???

Here is a decent PSU for an upgrade.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Ok, just did some reading and yes a 2.0 card will fit in the 1.0 slot but its not going to take full advantage of the card. May end up just being a waste of money to upgrade the GPU without upgradeing the mobo before hand.

There would be no issues installing a PCI-E 2.0 card or later. (backwards compatible)

How much of a budget do you have for the upgrade(s)?

Re: HELP! I want to upgrade my video card to play Skyrim...

Thanks everyone for you replies. To answer the questions....

-The mobo is MCP61PM-HM (Nettle3) motherboard link: HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, MCP61PM-HM (Nettle3) - c01357175 - HP Business Support Center

-I would say my budget is is no more than $400. Anything more than that I would be better off getting a new PC...but my wife would flip her lid if I did that.
