Display Disappeared

I have a refurbished windows xp pro, and it was working fine, but all of the sudden the display disappeared (everything remained on). When I boot, I still hear the windows sound (it has internal speakers), but no display. I tried another monitor but it still doesn't work.

Re: Display Disappeared

Is this a laptop or a desktop computer? Do you have a separate video card or are you plugging into the onboard VGA port? When you first start the computer do you see the Logo Screen or the Black POST (DOS Like) screen?
I fixed a computer like this. I put in a new video card and the computer booted up nicely. I then shut down the computer and put the old video card in and it booted up again and it never had a problem again. I still don't know why.,

Re: Display Disappeared

It is a desktop computer, it has both vga and dvi ports but maybe the vga port is inactive as I received the computer working with dvi. I do not see the logo screen or black post - I do not see anything.
And thanks, I'll try what you did. :)

Re: Display Disappeared

Are you plugging the monitor into the Video card? The onboard VGA is disabled when a video card is installed. Did you try plugging into the DVI port, if you don't have a DVI monitor, Did you try a DVI adapter attached to your VGA monitor? If all else fails, remove the video card and use the onboard VGA.
