I'm buying switches for a LAN at our school (about 40 people). I doubt normal lanning will lag but people will be sharing large files.
1. What's the best way to set up a LAN? Two 24 ports connected via their gigabit ports? Or a fast 8 port central switch with other 8 ports connected to it?
2. Will it help if a gigabit switch is used as central switch even though the others are 10/100mb?
3. Does the LAN cable length impact the performance?
4. What about power? I am organizing a 3 phase hookup and what amp extension lead do you suggest?
I'm only buying secondhand so no need for specific product suggestions. I can buy a gigabit switch or two but mostly 100/10mb because of price. There are some cheap 24 port switches available though.
