Hello all. As the title of my post shows, Windows Update has been running for about 3 days now and has not found anything to download. It seems like it's in some sort of loop.
I
I recently reinstalled W7 on my PC. As it normally does, Windows Update ran and found a few updates and installed them, one of them being SP1. After that, it's been in the current situation.

I've rebooted the computer multiple times to see if the would help. I've shut it down and powered back on. I've stopped and restarted the Windows Update Service. Nothing has changed. I know there's more updates for my computer to download as before I reinstalled Windows it had a ton of updates in the history over 5-6 yrs that I've had the computer.

Before posting I did some searching online and found a few sites with recommendations but I wanted to get the expert opinion of the TSF community.

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi there,

Try this method out. It's been working for me and plenty of others. I posted this method out to somebody else from this thread(http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/windows-updates-1168489.html) who had the same Windows Updates issue and they got their Windows Updates issue fixed. :

"I am familiar with this issue has i've recently dealt with multiple computers that are using Windows 7, where windows updates would simply just sit there looking for updates. There are plenty of Microsoft KB patches online and i've had to use them to resolve this issue. These Microsoft KB patches needs to be downloaded and installed.

However, in order to install these Microsoft KB patches, you would have to "DISABLE" windows updates. Follow this procedure.

1.) DISABLE WINDOWS UPDATE = Disable windows updates by clicking on the start button and on the search bar, type in "services.msc". The services window will open and in there, scroll to the bottom of the window and find, "Windows Updates". Right click on it and then choose "stop".

2.) INSTALL KB3020369 = Go to this website = Windows 7 SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates - Super User and download patch KB3020369. Check to see if your computer operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
a.) 32-bit = https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=46827
b.) 64-bit = https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=46817

3.) REBOOT COMPUTER = Once you have downloaded and installed KB3020369, reboot your computer. The KB patch will prompt you to perform a reboot on your computer. Go ahead and reboot yoru computer.

4.) INSTALL KB3172605 = Once your computer has booted into Windows, check the windows updates via services window and if it's enable, go ahead and disable windows updates again by clicking on stop. Then go to the same website and install patch KB3172605.
a.) 32-bit = https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53335
b.) 64-bit = https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53332

5.) REBOOT COMPUTER = Once you have installed patch KB3172605, go ahead and perform a reboot on your computer a second time.

6.) WINDOWS UPDATES TEST = Once you perform a reboot on your computer after installing patch KB3172605 and the computer boots back to windows, check to make sure windows updates is enabled via services windows. Right-click on windows updates and click on "start". Afterwards, perform a windows updates, wait 10-20minutes, and see if windows updates sees all of the updates.

Hope everything works out well for you.

So after trying numerous time to follow the posted steps, I was never able to get Widows Update to work.

Yesterday, out of the blue, I got a Windows Update notification on my taskbar that there were updates available to be installed.

So it looks like it is now working. Weird.
