RUBEN
i burned it from an iso file and i upgraded from windows vista home basic
and in reply to spunk funk as i have already stated it isnt the drive at all. and i know it is or at least was a bootable dvd as i used it to install my new OS
What is the make and model# of your computer?
To boot from the DVD boot into Setup (Bios) go to Boot Priorities. here move the CD/DVD rom drive to First Boot Device. You may also be able to press F12 at Bootup to set a one time boot from DVD drive.
To check your DVD drive, go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed. If it is your Optical Drive, try the Microsoft FixIt in the link in the Quote Above.
Try booting from a known DVD software disc like Windows Install DVD, that is not a burned disc. If that doesn't work, try the disc on another computer. If it doesn't boot that computer, it is not a bootable disc. In Windows try the software disc, if no DVD reads in Windows. First go to Start/Search and type CMD right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type
SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing system files.
If still no DVD's will play, then the DVD laser on the drive has failed, and the drive needs to be replaced.
Hi lets clear up some things this iso was it a oem disc a full retail disc or just an upgrade disc.
OEM = came pre-installed ie dell,hp,acer. Retail Bought from a store or online store with activation key
upgrade installed inside windows
Did you format first before installing? (Clean Install) also, If you burn an ISO and for some reason or another a couple files don't get on or are damaged in the process. Windows will install but it will be missing certain files.
it was a fresh install wrench and im going to have to agree with spunk funk and say that is exactly what happened
