Hi there.

I've recently built a new computer, and have been having some problems shutting it down. The computer shuts down fine if I don't put it into sleep mode, but as soon as I put it to sleep, the next time I wake it up and shut it down, it hangs on the shutting down screen.

I'm using a gigabyte z77 ud3h motherboard, and have had some problems with the usb ports so far, with certain ports being fussy about what I plug into them even though I've installed and updated all the drivers. Although I've got the usb devices I need working now, the shutdown issue still persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Go to Start > Type CMD > Right Click on Command Prompt and press Run as Admin. > Type: SFC /scannow

Nope, no joy. Just came up with "resource manager did not find any integrity violations"

Go back to Command Prompt but this time type: chkdsk /f and restart. The reason I ask you to check the disk is because Sleep mode depends on the HDD.

Windows should still check it.

Does the computer wake right up after Sleep Mode?

Go ahead and run chkdsk see if it finds anything wrong.

Chkdsk didn't find anything, but I think I've isolated the problem. I've got a focusrite audio interface connected via usb, and the problem does not occur when this is unplugged, although it still does if it is connected during sleep and then disconnected before shut down.

I guess I should try updating/reinstalling the drivers and possibly changing usb ports. I'm sure upgrading the bios would help as well, but I'm too protective over my machine to risk doing it at this point in time lol

OK, even with the drivers re-installed and the interface connected to another usb port it's still happening. Might have to accept that it's just incompatible hardware

You may wish to try and repair Windows Live.

Go to Control Pannel as if you were going to uninstall MSN. Then at the uninstalling area click repair not uninstall.
