When you uncheck items in the Startup list, you don't
Loose them, they don't go away. They just don't start with Windows. To return any item to the Startup list, just check it again. There are no items in the Startup folder that
need to start with Windows to operate the computer, except the Anti-Virus software.
I don't think you were doing
Clean Boot. as suggested. If you want to try
Clean Boot. again, follow the instructions in the link in Post
#18 or here. Basically, In
msconfig, You would go to the
Services Tab and
Hide all Microsoft Services, Then
Disable All Services. Then go to the
Startup tab and Uncheck
All the Startup items. Then restart.
If that works, then go back to the
Services tab, add one service at a time that was disabled and reboot. As soon as the computer starts freezing, then you know that is the problem.
If everything is still good, Once all services are added back, add one Startup item at a time, again, rebooting after each one.
If this didn't help and you want to return everything back to default, choose
Normal Startup under the
General Tab in
msconfig.
If doing a
Clean Boot. as outlined above doesn't fix the problem, then this could be caused by HDD degradation.
Go to Start/Search and type
CMD, Right click the
CMD results and
Run As Administrator. In the Elevated
Command Prompt type
chkdsk /R and press Enter. Now type a Y for Yes, and restart the computer. Check Disk will start at next bootup and go through 5 stages. It will take a long time.
