I have a windows 7 ultimate laptop updated with the latest microsoft updates.
I had SkyDrive working fine using a hotmail account. I then got a second computer
with windows 8.1 setup using OneDrive with a Live account.
Finally, I tried changing the laptop to OneDrive using the new Live account
by uninstalling SkyDrive on it, downloading OneDrive app and installing that.
It starts the install process, shows the OneDrive folder under favorites, but
when I hit the Get Started button on the dialog box showing the different
devices it switches to a second, all blank white, box and remains stuck there
until eventually after days I shutdown the laptop.
I'm stuck in no man's land and cannot access OneDrive on the laptop, but I can
see my files under the new live account. The OneDrive Support site is useless
to me for this. Can anybody help?
Right click on the "OneDrive" shortcut select "Properties" under the "Compatibility" tab select "Run this program in compatibility mode" select Windows Vista or Windows XP. Select "Apply" see if OneDrive opens.
I also need to ask which Service Pack you have installed on Windows 7. Maybe OneDrive requires SP1 for Windows 7 to run correctly.
Do not run OneDrive installer under compatibility mode. It is not design to be ran that way. Especially in Window XP mode since OneDrive isn't support for XP.
Have you tried to just do a second reinstall of OneDrive?
I'm stuck in the install mode. Uninstall programs wipes it from that list, but leaves the OneDrive Favorite shortcut. Any reinstall or clicking the shortcut just leads down the same dead end path.
When I browser to OneDrive using the old hotmail id I see this and most of my other devices.
When I browser to OneDrive using the live id I see the new pc.
This pc is the only old hotmail id pc I've tried to switch to the live id and am stuck in limbo now. There must be something internal to Windows that needs to be changed that a simple install/un-install doesn't accomplish
I do not think at this point OneDrive is ever COMPLETELY uninstalled. It's removed from the uninstall programs list, but the OneDrive folder shortcut remains visibile under Favorities in Explorer.
Start the install again :
1. double-click OneDriveSetup.exe.
2. run exe security warning. click.
3. UAC warning. click.
5. Preparing/Installing OneDrive progress bar to 100%. check.
6. Welcome to OneDrive with device logos and (get started) button. check. click.
7. White blank dialog box with MicroSoft OneDrive title bar. Blue "Loading" flash then disappeared leaving only box. stuck.
Start double-click OneDrive Favorites shortcut.
1. Nothing happened. I could copy file to OneDrive folder, but
2. no active notify or icon in task bar.
3. It was not syncing any files to/from internet OneDrive either email id.
Yes, the icon shows OneDrive both before & after install and uninstall.
I looked at the OneDrive install logs and it appears to be hung up by a prior install/version, but I guess I already knew that. Also, removed all I could of OneDrive in AppData and ProgramData, but to no avail.
I also got on my onedrive hotmail browser account and remove the this pc from it's list, but still a no go.
I'm prepping to restore a previous c-drive image if I cannot solve this soon.
